how to count calories in steak w/bone

Post by kuston »

I have a question that I can't find the answer to on the net. I'm on a calorie diet and doing well. I think the trick that works for me is to write everything down - I track everything I eat.

question is how to count the calories in a steak with a bone ie t-bone?

As an example, lets say the steak is listed as 170 calories per 3ou. 1/3-1/2 of a steak is bone. So how many calories are in a 15ou T-bone? The 15ou is pre-cooked weight that is used to calulate the price. I throw any about 6 ounces of bone and fat after eating it.

1. 850 = (15/3)*170
2. 510 = ((15-6)/3) * 170
3. some other number?

Thanks for the help

15 OZ / 1/3 = 5 OZ Bone weight.

Although eating a 15 OZ Steak is probably too much. most 3OZ Steaks have about 30g Protein, so you'd be getting Protein overkill, unless you cut the thing into about 2-3 pieces, and cook them at seperate meals.

thanks, please correct me if I didn't understand:

15ou total
5ou bone
10ou meat @ 170cal per 3ou

567calories = (10/3) * 170

10OZ = 3OZ x 3.3, so 10OZ = 561 calories, which is pretty much what you said.

Bone might have a calorie content, but you wouldn't need to know that, and neither do I.
