A word on L-glutamine

Post by Tallgirll22T »

I had recently read an article on the benefits of taking glutamine. I knew it was good for muscles, but the article furthered that by saying it increases metabolic rate and helps decrease recovery time. I already take casein just about everyday, but sometimes I still struggle with recovery; it is probably due to job and odd and early hours I keep because of it. Anyway, I thought I need to get me some glutamine.
I needed a few things from the supplement store, one of which was some sort of probiotic of digestive. Acidolphilus just wasn't cutting it if I ate junk or during PMS week. Surprisingly, when I asked the sales rep about L-glutamine, the first thing out of her mouth wasn't about muscles or body-building, she said it works great for digestion, and she has a customer with IBS who comes in and buys it all the time, swearing it helped. It was affordable, so I bought some to kill two birds with one stone. I can't tell yet if it is doing anything for muscles, although I had a sore oblique for a week that went away as soon as I started taking the glutamine. But it definitely stimulates digestion! The bottle says you can take up to 4 capsules a day. I take one an hour or so before dinner, and sometimes I take one mid morning on a fairly empty stomach. That seems to be enough for me. Now I know why some of the pre-made protein shakes I've had gave me the runs! They were loaded with L-glutamine!

Forget the pills and buy freeform.

Pills give you gelatin for your money as well, which is not necessarily cost efective and gelatin to knowledge, has no real benefit for people with wheat / gluten intolerance, as I believe it might be a problem.

All you need is 5g freeform before bed and after workouts.
