Yes I read Boss Man's article and it was all very interesting and enlightening and scary. I didn't know high cholesterol meds could cause muscle problems, but that makes sense because mom has developed symptoms of fibral miyalsia since taking simvastatin. Again interesting.
question however, pertains to turkey. I work packaging meat, and selling meat, and getting all dirty and bloody and wrapping meat. I'm also a seafood manager. Anyhow, one day one of regular customers said "Hey you wanna see something scary?" I said sure because I was that bored. She grabs a package of our leanest ground turkey off the shelf and asked me "Isn't this supposed to be really good for you because it is leaner and better fat than beef?" I said that's what I've always heard and read. bodybuilding mags all advocate eating it. She flips the pack over and shows me that it has a cholesterol count on the nutrition label something like 102. She brought up the point that a lot of people don't eat more than a certain amount of eggs a day because they are worried about the fat and cholesterol in it, and eggs don't contain near as much as that 93% lean ground turkey did. I told her that was scary and surprising and I would get back with her when I learned more.
So question is why the heck is ground turkey touted as better for you than the other stuff when the cholesterol is that high?
Isn't the reason I cook with coconut oil instead of butter because coconut oil has zero cholesterol? If I am making unnecessary sacrifices in the way I season food I eat, I would like to know. I really like butter, especially with mushrooms and steak.

Re: A question regarding Cholesterol
I wouldn't be overly concerned about dietry cholesterol, as it supposedly has a limited impact on blood cholesterol levels anyway.
Coconut oil contains lauric acid, caprylic acid and caproic acid, which are called medium chain triglycerides / fatty acids, and they convert to energy in the liver.
Coconut oil also has a good heat stability and smoke point, so it's very good for cooking with.
Turkey is a pretty healthy meat so keep on eating it if you like, as long as it doesn't come in any forms where there might be high salt content, or it's made in some kind of unhealthy processed manner.

I always cook with Coconut oil; good to know that I am now getting a double wammy. Though what kinds of turkey have high salt? The regular deli stuff?
