which routine is more efficient for weight loss ?

Post by amind »

hi,

I usually have two workout routines. I have seen some progress but want to see much better results. Over
the period of the last 7-8 months, I have lost about 20 pounds. I am currently around 216 lbs and am interested
in breaking the 200 mark. I was close to 236 lbs last August, so I have seen some progress and I am happy
about that. But I feel the time has come to reach out to the experts and fellow members :) I am trying to figure
out which of below two are more efficient in weight loss.

data: , 43 yrs old, 5.11 height, broad build, 216 lbs

workout: ( currently alternate between the two )

Routine 1:
1.5 hours of trail walking covering about 5.62 miles. Not much ascent, pretty flat.

Routine 2:
30 minutes of Precor Elliptical on weight loss setting. seems to burn upto 300 calories on the monitor
30 minutes of weight training with dumbbells, chin ups, assisted pull ups, ab machine and a few other machines
30 minutes of treadmill running covering about 2.6 miles

Looking for advice:
I try to alternate between the above two workout routines. I am trying to get inputs on which of the above will
be more efficient for weight loss. I know there is no magic bullet, and it will need lots of hard work.
I want to make sure when I am dedicating the time/effort , I am also making the right decision on the workout
routine.

thanks........

What foods do you eat and what times do you eat them?

Try to keep it pretty simple. Can't diet or starve, but am pretty regular with what
I eat.

BF: Oatmeal w/2 % milk or
Cereal w/2 % milk or
1 Egg + 2 slices buttered bread or
Bagel + Light Cheese or
Scrambled Egg(1) + 2 Sausages + 1 Slice Bread + Salsa

Lunch: Chicken Sandwich or
Turkey Sandwich or
Chilli w/meat + bread or
Subway (no chips or soda) or
Burger (no fries or soda)

Snack: Apple juice or Apple
Instant oatmeal
Tangerines

Dinner: Rice(1 cup) + Fish + Veggies or
Rice(1 cup) + Chicken + Veggies or
Rice(1 cup) + Beans/Legumes + Veggies

Try this simple technique.

Remove 10g carbs out of each meal and add the calories back in from fat. This creates a carb deficeit that hopefully fat will sustain, as fat is a secondary energy source, but by not just removing the carb and cutting calories, you should not be risking any muscle, as 1lb of added muscle burns an extra 45-50 calories per day, so preserving it is a good thing.

I'd say do both if you like. Favour the machine based routine over the other one, but you could schedule them thusly.

Day 1. Routine 2

Day 2. Routine 1

Day 3. Routine 2

Day 4. Day off

Day 5. Routine 1

Day 6. Routine 2

Day 7. Day off
