So Frustrated!

Post by ab_113 »

I am new to this so I guess the best way to start would be to tell you the situation I am currently in.

weight loss "journey" started about 3 and a half years ago. I am 20 years old, so I was 17 at the time. I have always been overweight but it had gotten to a point of just being unhealthy. I am 5'4 and at the time I weighed just about 200 pounds. I started to see a nutritionist on a regular basis and in six months I had lost 33 pounds (196-163).

I plateaued and fluctuated between 161-163 for the next 6 months. For the next year I was able to maintain weight but had gained back about 15 pounds because I completely stopped exercising and was at 178 at the start of last summer. I lost 10 of that between May and September of last year. diet up until the end of September (in the periods I was actively trying to lost weight) was based on the plan I had been given by the nutritionist. It simply "allowed" me certain portions of each food group per day - i.e 4 servings of carbohydrates (1 serving being 15g), 3 servings of protein, 3 fats, 3 fruits, etc. I followed this while only doing cardio in the form of 30 minutes on the treadmill everyday with different exercise tapes.

By September I had just stopped seeing results. At the end of that month, I starting seeing a trainer who set me up with a completely new food and exercise plan. Between September and December I cut by down by 8% from 28 to 20% (according to the trainer's measurements) with weight never really changing.

It has now been six months since the first meeting in September and I feel like I am not seeing anywhere close to the results I was expecting to see after such a long period of time. I carry all of weight in legs and I do not see the changes I had hoped for.

diet is very clean - I eat 3 smaller meals a day with 3 snacks in between. snacks will always include a fruit with either yogurt (2% plain greek yogurt) or a handful of almonds or 2 tbsp of natural peanut butter (some source of protein/good fat). breakfasts always include a protein with either a carb (usually whole grain toast bread or raw oats) or a fruit. lunch is always a lean protein with either whole wheat pasta or whole grain rice or whole wheat pita etc. with vegetables - at supper I eat the same just without the carbs.

In terms of exercise, program is a combination of high intensity cardio with light weight training and other exercises (i.e squats, burpees, crunches, etc.). I exercise for 45 minutes- 1 hour everyday. I have one day of just cardio and one day of rest.

I feel like the effort I am putting in is not getting the results I had hoped for. After having done this for so long, I am at a loss as to what else I could possibly be doing. I have never really seen this as a diet - I completely changed lifestyle 4 years ago and I have not fallen into any bad habits.

I feel extremely helpless and the frustration from looking in the mirror and not seeing changes it the worst feeling when so much effort is being put into the program.

current weight is back at 163 and I understand that the number does not mean much. I have built a lot of muscle in the last six months as I had never done any form of exercise other than cardio prior to that so I am aware that the number may not change but other measurements can be going down. I just know what I see and the way clothes fit and I am not happy. "goal" weight would be 135-140 pounds considering height.

Any insight into all of this would be greatly appreciated!

Try something simple.

Take 10g Carbs out of your meals and replace the calories with fat.

The body will have an energy deficeit that should be filled by fat use, as fat is a secondary energy source.

If any meals are around 20-25g in carbs, don't go below 20g, as carbs are good for affecting sleep, bloodsugar levels and energy, but this might work for you.
