Hi all!
I have never posted on one of these things but I'm just about desperate to lose this small amount of fat around midsection!
about me: female. 22 years old. 5'5". 143 pounds. 15.2% body fat (via BodPod). I am a collegiate athlete. I train 5-6 days a week. workout consist of lifting weights (mostly olympic/ powerful lifts) and running track workouts (nothing over 400 meters). I eat a relatively clean diet and I am wheat free.
I train very hard and eat a well rounded diet full of lean protein and veggies. I have very defined muscles in arms and legs, and abs are visible, but I have this layer of fat covering abs and it's driving me crazy! I also have some fat on thighs despite the fact that I can practically squat a house. I am looking for some tips to burn this small amount of visceral fat I have around midsection. I don't do much cardio but I'm considering adding it in to make abs pop. I feel like I work way too hard to still be self conscious about midsection.
If anyone has any advice please let me know! Thank you all!!!

Re: losing visceral fat
It doesn't sound like exercise is the problem mainly I would suggest that you keep your workouts fresh, if you have been doing the same thing for more then a few weeks then that's a problem. Sameness is your enemy when it comes to exercise. Are you doing a sprint training routine? Sprinting burns more fat than running distance at a moderate pace does.
As far as diet, cutting starchy carbs down is a good idea with the exception of your post workout meal which should be 4/1 carb to protein ratio with very little fat consumed within an hour of exercise. Also consider your portion size, with the amount of exercise you do I'll bet diet is the issue. Keep a food journal and see if that helps.
Best,

Re: losing visceral fat
Not to sound like a bad person, but I am so relieved someone else is having same probs as me. I too am a 22 year old female. I get kinda sick of every magazine I pick up saying somehting like "look good over 40." I guess we 20 somethings don't matter, or they think all we want to read are dumb mags full of useless nonsense. Anyway, I'm not an athlete, and am much taller than you, but I have this ugly pudgy wobbly flab covering most of abs and a weird pooch deposit thing on thighs. Drives me crazy. I'm skinny or muscled everywhere else.
Your post also relieves me because at 5'5" I think weighing in the 140s sounds a bit high. A friend of mine is 5'8" and she weighs that and isn't too skinny. I have always thought I weigh too much. Anyhow, sounds like you have plenty of muscle.
Cardio will definately help you, but if you don't like it because it is boring/not fun, try picking up Jillian Michael's Kickbox Fast at Walmart for around $9. It is really fun and has weighted intervals for upper body, abs, and legs. Also a tutorial feature. It is really easy to get into.
Also, I truly believe that drinking lots of water instead of all the other stuff out there, plus eating fish everyday can cure just about everything. More green, leafy veggies wouldn't be a bad idea either. Good luck, and here's to being 22!
