Hip Replacement Surgery

Post by lkayholt »

Hello people, first post on this site! I have a question... :?: Anyone out there have hip replacement surgery? If so, what are you doing, bodybuilding? Spinning? HIIT? I just recently had a total hip replacement Dec. 12, 2012. I've searched, Googled, etc...trying to find information about exercising after surgery. All I've been told by surgeon and PT is no running  or high impact, like box jumps. However, I've been told by others, whom I think might be misinformed, is no heavy weights, no squats or lunges. I really do not believe this to be true. I used to be a very active woman and loved doing HIIT... Tell me what you are doing :!:

Hi there, how are you?

I would like to say I am sorry to hear you were misdiagnosed on your hip surgery, but I must say you look beautiful for your age; you would never know you were 50, so WELL DONE on taking good care of yourself :).

I spoke to someone some years ago, who was actually the first person in Britain to have a partial hip replacement, which was required after an accident on holiday about 3 years earlier.

His very lengthy scar wasn't nice to look at, but he was in out and done within 3 days and at the time, I saw him training again about 4 days after getting out of hospital and he was doing things like leg extensions, which don't target the hip flexors, but could have still been a slight risk of possible stitch rupturing and he didn't seem to intimate any stipulations about what he should and shouldn't do, as far as I recall.

Regarding the prohibited movements / exercises you were advised against, what exact reasoning was used? Damage to the new hip and / or surrounding tissues and / or potential damage to stitching, or something else and were such advised prohibitions deemed temporary or permanent?
