best non stim. fat burner?

Post by coolbeans33 »

I love running but unfortunalety had to force myself to quit because of bad joints. It's pretty depressing. So I got a gym membership to make up for it, very hard to find the same motivation to excercise! Every day I look forward to the spring so I can get a bike!

So anyway I'm currently taking oxy-elite pro for energy, but would also like to add something to help burn fat without any stimulants. I'd like to lose 10 pounds in the next 6 months or so.. Any good advice for supplements? It would be nice to hear recommendations from personal experience.

Thanks!

Hi there, nice to converse with you :).

Firstly I would to empathise with you, regarding the knee issues and the hinderance they cause to your physical wants, ut I want to tell you I am so proud of you for not giving up and thinking you can't aim for the physical success you originally wanted, because if it's still possible and I've no reason right now to doubt it, then I think you deserve to be the person, you want to become physically and think you are worth that time and effort :).

Secondly I'm going to say something you might not necessarily want to read, but it's because I care about members like you, I'm going to do it anyway, for your own good and potential wellbeing and because you deserve some honest truth, from someone who cares more about you than many supplement companies do, because to me you're an individual, not a revenue stream :).

This is the product information about Oxyelite Pro.

Nutrition Facts

Proprietary Blend

Bauhinia Purpurea L (Leaf and Pod)(Standardized for Bauhiniastatins 1-4), Bacopa Monniera (Leaf), 1,3-Dimethylamylamine (Geranium [Stem]), Cirsium Oligophyllum (Whole Plant Extract), Rauwolscine (Rauvolfia Canescens L[Leaf and Root])
*Percent Daily Values are based on a 2,000 calorie diet.
Other Ingredients: Modified Starch, Gelatin, Vegetable Stearate, Silicon Dioxide, Red No. 3, Blue No. 1, Red No. 40, Titanium Dioxide.

I would respectfully hazard a guess, you don't know much about these ingredients and their biological interactions, or what could be called "mechanisms of action", I.E. how they act in your body to stimulate their end effects. If you did thorough, adequate checks beforehand, then fair enough :).

This is not me questioning your intelligence, as many supplement buyers, never think to wonder about ingredient interactons and if they can cause long term harm, short term harm, anomelies relating to the early onset of some, as yet, undetected physical problem, or issues relating to alcohol, caffeine or medication consumption.

Most people buy stuff for what it represents, relative to their problem, the name, the branding, the liking of famous people endorsing it, or people they know swearing by it, which doesn't mean anything, as anybody using it or endorsing it, could be accused of not knowing about the possible issues I mentioned above and therefore exposing themselves or you, to such potential issues, by using it and / or because you used it, based on what such people said about it.

Logically, why would I take a supplement that could possibly harm me, or was a rip-off waste of money, because someone I knew did, when I had no knowledge if they knew whether it could harm them, or if it was a rip-off or not?

The blind leading the blind mayhap.

Most famous people, friends and relatives, don't have biochemistry degrees, nor are they called masters of herbology, so assuming no serious prior reasearch on what they use, know little about what they consume, or how much of each individual ingredient, is worthwhile or poor.

I am neither of those qualified persons myself, just someone with some self education and a common sense approach and I admit, all bar the Caffeine, the ingredients in the "proprietary blend" mean nothing to me, they're just herbs I know nothing about.

Most people have no understanding, of how well fat burners work when they take them, because they usually implement them in conjunction, with other potentially fat burning life changes, I.E. diet and / or exercises modifications. They don't live in a way that made them overweight, then just decide to take pills and no more than that, so they don't isolate the effects and therefore often assume if they're losing weight, the pills must be working.

The sad truth is, they are not, or if they are, only in a way that's poor and not worth the money.

These pills are often proven with poor science, poor testing methods, by being given to small and inadequate cross-sections of users, I.E. 5 men and 5 women over 2-3 months, as opposed to 5,000 people over 3-5 years, like you might for a Cancer drug trial let's say.

They also sometimes come with made up testimonials from people who don't exist, so you look on an internet phonebook and find perhaps 5 people with the same initial and surname living in the same area, as someone in a testimonial, so does that mean one of them endorsed the product, or none of them and if one did, would you ring them all, asking to confirm their testimonial wasn't bogus?

Probably not.

Alternatively, you get testimonials from people, like the ones I described above, living under the pretence, that when they made changes to their life, including pill taking, the pills worked.

They represent to me, false positives; but they add more credibility to the product, because their testimonials are not faked, even if they are misrepresentative of the almost certainly cast iron truth, that they wasted money on trash.

Oh and if they say they tried everything and couldn't lose the weight before using the product, they mean everything they or people they knew could think of. We've had people on here before with Thyroid issues, that lost some weight without pills, so people with no such issues alledgedly trying "everything" and getting nowhere, are not being entirely honest to themselves I feel.

I would therefore urge you to stop taking the Oxylite and don't feel ashamed, embarrassed, stupid or wasteful, if you throw half away; you shouldn't, as you were just a victim, like so many, of the clever marketing, designed to target people with body consciousness issues. However, you wouldn't be getting your monies worth, conusming a whole bottle compared to half a one, that's a 99.9999% certainty.

As for other potential supplements, there are not really any designed to do the job I feel. You might get somewhere with things like CLA or Carnitine, but those are a mixed bag kind of thing anyway and maye be a bit hit and miss really.

If you are able to do any form of weights, I suggest that as an extra option, as an extra 1lb of added muscle burns another 45-50 calories per day.

Also your diet might benefit from a few tweaks here and there.

So I'd like to ask what foods do you eat and what times do you eat them?

If you have read this far and didn't decide to ignore me, because I supposedly looked preachy and anti-you, which was not meant to be the case, then THANK YOU, because I am here to care and long standing presence on here attests to that.

Hopefully if you can do some kind of weights and can furnish myself or other members with the understanding of your eating habits explained how I requested them earlier on, we as a community can do more to help you achieve what you want pill free and maybe financially better off :).

Whatever happens though, GOOD LUCK and know that we are here for you and how ever much or often you want to let us, we'll try what is reasonable to stand by you and support your goals okay :).

Yeah, I have to agree with Boss Man about supplements that claim weight loss. I always tell clients that if they worked Oprah would be thin and doing a show about it. The fact is very few work, if they work it's stimulant based and the level of result is insignificant. There are no lotions, potions or pills even prescriptive ones have unsavory side effects.Your best bet is to keep a food journal, make some dietary adjustments, and do short high intensity workouts when you can fit them in.
