weight gain after quitting smoking?
Hi name is Shelly, I have never wrote one of these before. I went through 5 years of behavior modification therapy to quit smoking (I went 9 rounds with those little filtered bitches) I have not smoked seen March 2011. I have gained 75 lbs. I don't know what to do now, I just don't know how to lose the weight.

You have to replace it with something. Do you think you could become addicted to exercise?
It worked for me when I was a teenager, but I wouldn't compare smoking to a lifetime of smoking or anything like that.

Good idea. Better than alcohol, Chocolate, drugs, Sugar or Caffeine, some of which can become substitutes in a situation like yours, because people have their little routine and need to switch one habit for another, probably to restore some kind of "order", to the perceived chaos.

5 times a week max.
Keep weights to about an hour and cardio to about 30 minutes at a time.
Cardio on days when you're not lifting is an ideal scenario and splitting the 5 days is a good idea, so you don't do 5 days straight and 2 days of nothing.

I last had a cigarette a year and two months ago. I won't say quit as that makes you feel like its over and lowers your guard. It was around the third or fourth attempt at quitting. I have emphysema now, thanks to it. In a way that made quitting easier/necessary. Still though, it was tough. method was simple--no patches, gum etc. I just drank loads of water and green tea and rooiboos tea whenever I felt the urge. Kept hands busy and replaced the hand to mouth action of smoking. I also work out most days too. I do one day of core and cardio then next day weights. I'm now the same weight I was when I was 18 (37 now). Hang in there, not easy but not impossible.
