I have not had thses thing personally, but I can provide some insight into what you might be experiencing.

GERD, (Gastro-Eosophageal Reflux Disorder), can be triggered by eating a very acidic diet. Acid foods can include things like meat, citrus, etc, as opposed to things like Coconut Milk, Veggies, Legumes ect, which are examples of alkaline foods.

This might help.

The stomach can regulate its own acidity, but it can be temporarily altered by diet and if you suffer GERD it may be wise to include more alkaline choices into your diet

You may have been told that things like Water, Milk and Milk of Magnesia, can potentially help to calm a GERD attack, without the potential need for consuming antacids.

GERD can also be symptomatic of Hyperacidity and Hyperacidity can be caused by some of the things I mentioned. It can also be caused apparently by eating Citrus and Whole-grains in the same meal, which has something to do with the relevant enzymes that help break them down, competing and not getting along very well, so I believe.

Hyperacidity can cause food to become Hyperacidic and this can irritate the Duodenum, the part of the digestive tract directly below the Pyloric Valve at the base of the Stomach.

This is where the Bile from the Liver that is stored in the Gall bladder is sent and Bile is used to help Breakdown fats. The Duodenum, also makes and helps to monitor production of some enzymes and Hyperacditiy can interfere with its working if I recall correctly.

This link might also be of use.

Good luck :).
