Splits alone (sinking into the stretch) doesn't require much strength, it is more about relaxation. Generally you will develope RoM strength in your adductors.
Active splits I find more impressive, as you need incredible strength in your abductors to pull into them and deactivate your adductors.

Sprinting is very tasking so I doubt you would need to do any additional work. It is largely anaerobic, but that works your cardiovascular system too.
