I must confess I took another rest day yesterday. legs just needed another day of rest. I did a good one hour cardio workout on the treadmill this morning. I broke it up into two half hour sessions with a one minute rest between the sessions. In other woords I did not get off the treadmill for that one minute break. I am hoping legs get better as I lose weight and they don't have to take the pounding of an extra 60 or 70 pounds. I do not feel guilty for taking off yesterday. I think the long term is more important that proving to myself how macho I am. I have to be patient. It took 30+ years to get in this shape.

You could try the elliptical trainer, lessen the impact :) What is making your legs sore ?

If you get a bit of soreness in the Legs, it could be DOMS, (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness). When it happens, it's usually within 36 hours of a weight session.

I often dissipates after a few weeks, when the muscles adapt to what they're having get used to, biomechanically speaking of course.

Some people always get it, but I fervently believe it's not an indicator of a good workout, but could also be an indicator of overtraining. I don't think you're doing that though.

You could try doing some Cardio on an Exercise Bike, as you should channel upper body weight into the seat or saddle and mostly away from the Legs, so when compared to upright Cardio, you shouldn't be havign to carry the added weight too.

This would be epsecially good for after Leg training, to assist recovery, because having that added resistance of the Upepr body weight on Legs, would potentially just deplete more enery stores from the Legs, and increase recovery time greater than Bike work might.

Upright Cardio is better done after doing Upper Body training, if you do Cardio after any weights sessions.

I did strength training with the personal trainer today. legs were not to bad today. I am mostly having a problem right knee. Add to that, I am getting pain from shin splints and the pads of feet. I began today icing down the knee afterward and it is helping. If things get to bad I will go the eliptical or cycle for awhile. I need to get past this because I start 5K training a month from now. Right now I feel great. I am going to the White Sox game tonight, but I will stay away from the beer and snacks.

Shin Splints can be caused by heel striking when you run.

However if you are getting the pain and discomfort in the sole of the Feet, it could be Plantar Fasciitis, which is inflammation of the Plantar, the strip between the heel and ball of the foot.

It can be caused by possibly bad choices of shoes, over exercising possibly, weight problems and a tight Achillies.

You can have things like Onions, Apples, Peppers, (Quercetin) and Pineapple, (Bromelain), as they are anti-inflammatory foods, or Quercetin and Bromelain can be bought supplementally.

Did an hour on the treadmill. Legs not as bad today, but still sore. Tomorrow is a rest and recovery day. Hopefully I have made it over the hump.

Its a work night so I got to be quick and get ready for bed. I did strength training today. legs really seem to be recovering. There is very little soreness. I think next week I will need to increase weight a little bit. What I am lifting now (not much) is getting easier.

That's good to read. Slow but steady progress, which is a positive you can use to keep you motivated :).

How far your body will let you progress at this stage in life, is obviously not clear yet, but you can be proud of the little things you have achieved, in a relatively short space of time.

I did a cardio workout this morning. I did 30 minutes on the treadmill, one minute of rest and another 30 minutes. legs are much improved. knees were a bit sore afterward, but they did not bother me during the workout. They seem fine now that a few hours have passed.

Good to read. Must be nearly a month now of consistent effort. So that will be the first landmark on your new journey in life.

Well done to you for not flaking, like a lot of those new years resolutioners do.

Still going and will not stop. Did Strength training yesterday and cardio today. Hit 265 on the scale. It has been a bit hectic lately, meaning busy at work so I have been slacking on the journal but not on the workouts. I start the running class on the 3rd of June. That date is coming fast.
