Hi Patty!

I've moved journaling to the contest thread in Weight Loss/Fat Loss so haven't posted here in awhile.

Just checking in to see how you are doing. Hope all is well!

I am still around and checking in. I am down to 181. I have lost 58 pounds total. I got first belt ranking in karate and will be testing for orange belt in two weeks. I might have first tournament in October in Conn. Everything is going great and I have all of you guys to thank. I will try to check in with everyone has we get rainy days, because otherwise I am outside.

It would be great to meet up. I am not sure where it is yet. I know it is around the 17th or 18th of October though. When it gets closer to the date, we will set something up.

You should be proud of yourself. Congrats on the weight loss, and acheiving the belt as well :).

OUS! I had first belt test yesturday, I am now an orange belt. I did 17 knuckle push-ups and then finished on hands. But all 30 were on toes. So many, especially women, were on their knees. Lucky they didn't tell me that that was an option. I don't think I would have worked so hard. LOL When I got to the dojo 2 months ago, I could only do 5 push-ups on hands and only because I had started weight training two months before that (I could only do 10 on knees then). I have come so far. I did all 30 sit-ups with a short break for air at number 25 and did them way under a minute. When I first got there, it took 2 minutes to do 30 with a lot of breaks and stomach hurt for days after.

I borrowed sparring gear from that woman whose wrist was broke (she is so nice), and Shihan (the teacher) let me spar, even though I had never sparred before, because of the lack of equipment. Sam said that Shihan wasn't going to let me spar because of the no experience, but not only did he let me, I got to fight Senpai (another teacher) in her 2nd stripe test, a 20 man kumate. A kumate is when you fight one person at a time for 60 seconds, with no breaks. You bow in, you fight, you bow out, NEXT. I was the only girl picked to fight her and I got her 4th, while she was still relatively fresh. I was on the offensive most of the time. I figured if I gave her time to think I would get butt kicked so I just started fighting. Really hard to remember not to kick to the knees or hit to the head after you get hit hard. I didn't hit her there but had to pull a couple of punches.

I did pretty well although I am battered and bruised this morning. Mostly shin and forearm. I scored really high on everything with all kinds of praises from judge. Like he said I am taking the right classes and that I surprised him in sparring. He said with more training, I'll be a monster.

So funny that I expected low numbers in kicks and a few other things because I could see all problems. Like when kicking in place, I have a hard time pivoting, but moving I have no problem.

Have a great week everyone!!

I am looking into a new weight training program. ChaLean was really good but I think I need something more than that now.

husband has p90X and I am thinking of trying that, but that seems to be above fitness level. I watched the first workout and it is pretty much and hour of push-ups and chin-ups, I don't think girly arms can handle it. I can only do assisted chin-ups right now. It would be cool do to at least one chin-up unassisted though. I think as I lose more weight, it will become easier. The circuit gets repeated once so I may try a half hour of the workout. I am also going to get that book the new rules of weight lifting for women. Any one read that?

This week in kickboxing, Sempai is focusing on strength. The strenghth workouts I can handle, the cardio I am lacking sorely. Last week she did cardio based exersices. It just amazes me that I go there feeling like I am in such great shape and can handle it all, to wishing that God would see fit to cut the power to the dojo so I can stop. Funny thing is that when she did this 7 minute drill (after 45 minutes of exersice) of 'mountain clibers', jogging in place, and knee-ups, she said if someone had to sit out they could. So I was hoping someone would, so I could. I just could not be the weak one to sit out first. No one sat out, so I stayed in the whole time. I slept like a baby that night.

Last Thursday we had a new guy come to jujitsu. He wants to be in the UFC and he is built just like any of those welter weight guys. I am totally not used to getting pushed around like this guy did to me. He was wicked strong. Good news is that he didn't win our match, I didn't either but the important part is that he didn't win. 38 year old mom of 6 VS. 26 year old in fighting shape...0-0 = win to me

Summer has me outside more and more these days and less and less on the computer. This weekend was very busy. I was entered twice in women's and mixed doubles tennis in the local tournament. Then I went to a board breaking seminar where I punched through tiles. Great weekend.

Fight training has been hard lately. I am not as quick as others. I can't seem to read a punch or a kick properly and I block wrong. Last monday, I blocked a round house with arm rather then leg and I got a HUGE lump. I wound up getting set home instead of full contact training. I still have the lump.

I am doing weight training again. I had a friend that would come over and train with me but she slowly stopped coming. It was getting sporadic and finally stopped. I am better with a freind by side, but I will stay focused. I need to get stronger, more flexable and more endurance. Is there a program for all that? Well today is day 3 of the program, I am back doing the ChaLean.

The main thing is just to get back on it. Some people will have these moments, where they let their activities slide. The thing you need to do, is not be hard on yourself, just try to learn from it, accept it, and keep pushing on.

It's not like you have been up and down weekly, so I wouldn't give yourself a hard time about things, as I find it doesn't do any good.
