Hi ladies,
Chris, sorry on the weather not much. Good for you on the walks on Thursday and Friday too. Good for you and hubby on the ride Saturday. I see you had a busy Sunday with the bathrooms and house. I see you did some raking too, I hope to do that tomorrow so I can get the windows rinsed off with the hose and the fence in the backyard etc. LOL about the boys out of the house for the decorations going up. I see they had fun with their scooter.
Yeah I know Chris, just felt bad I was MIA so much.
Well off to do monthly report......and then off line work to do.
Hope everyone is doing alright and enjoyed their Halloween.
Sue

October Report
Did better with workouts in October, walked on MWF mornings and then also did good cleaning afterwards and Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday more good cleaning. It's that time of year where the room by room top to bottom cleaning gets done. As I said in September report, walking and doing some dancing along with the work of cleaning will be workouts. Which as most of you know means a break in workouts till January.... old body is done a lot of rebelling this year so I am listening and doing what I can, when I can....all that I can do. As usual will also have RLW of walking for shopping day instead of regular one.
Weigh Ins for the Month:
10/1/17 Sunday weigh in 114.5
10/8/17 Sunday weigh in 114.5
10/22/17 Sunday weigh in 114
10/29/17 Sunday weight in 114
So as is the norm November will be walking on MWF morning followed by RLW's cleaning, unless it's a shopping day then walking at the stores.
Food goals: Food goals have not changed but remain the same...continue to take vitamin D, and keep up the increase in the fruits and veggies in diet, and try some different type of veggies, which we have been doing well with. Also continue to try out some different recipes, which had we are bound and determined this year to do better with. I will also continue with the getting in chocolate several times a week. PB is no longer an eating option for me. As for desserts we have made a switch and am keeping portion controls as I need to. Our soups mixed with egg noodles are working out great giving up lots of veggies and the sauce is already included; in addition to getting 2 dinners out of a can. Plus tummy likes it too LOL We will continue to have them over other types of noodles, like little farfalle and ditalini pasta too.
We have made up a number of the following ideas for dinners and just adding to our menu. In addition we have a number of ideas for different bases to go over pasta, making casseroles, etc. Plus making calzones, and pastry filled with vegetables and other filling to add to our diet for even more variety. We did a test one and it worked out great.
Trying to continue a variety of foods in our diet. Doing very well getting fish into diet having it on most Friday's and have also been getting it in during the week also. In addition adding diced peppers, potatoes, corn, spinach and other veggies to go with the fish has worked out well too. Still have had to be careful on portions as stomach still rebels on occasion, hence no weight gain in 2017 and slowly increase portion sizes to maybe put some weight on. Some weeks it goes up but then comes right back down again. Wish me luck.

Re: Sisters in Sweat Journal (but all are welcome)
I'm sorry about your uncle, Bekah.
Ha, you are right, that a keyboard is more practical for SIL. But I inherited the piano from aunt, so it has sentimental value to me and I'd feel badly getting rid of it. I could justify it if it stayed in the family!
I don't know that I want to do a race again very soon, but I do sometimes miss running. It's nice to feel like a kid, especially at age!
Yay on the looser pants and letting go of a few pounds, Chris!
I'm glad your knee is better, Bama, and hope you recover fully soon. Hope you got good news from your test, too. The senior classes are very popular around here! Our Y doesn't participate in Silver Sneakers but there are functional fitness classes, both in our facility and at the municipal building.
Thanks, Sue, I did get the bathroom all done, except for shopping for a shower curtain, rug, etc. And then I decided that I didn't like where I painted the family room all creamy white a few months ago, so I did the part above the chair rail in a soft creamy yellow. I like it much better. Then I started down the basement stairwell with the same yellow. Tomorrow after work, I think I need to take advantage of the weather and move painting outside--the chicken coop needs painting before it gets too cold.
I have heard the same about university-affiliated hospitals and doctors. I don't have any conditions that require that sort of expertise, so I stay local, but when I was getting scary hypotheses about double-vision, that was worth traveling for!
Yikes on smoking at 14!
Speaking of smoking, I talked to dad tonight--he had gone to the dr yesterday because he wasn't feeling well and they said his blood oxygen was very low. So now he has an oxygen machine at home, and a portable one for going out. I hope it's just temporary, but we'll see. At least if he needs it for a few weeks, it might help him give up those last few cigarettes he's still smoking. (He was supposed to have quit years ago when he was prescribed an inhaler for COPD, but he went back to sneaking 3 or 4 a day soon after.
)
I guess I'd better get moving here. Sweet dreams and happy November, everyone!

Sue we don't get that many trick or treat kids either but we do get some.
No, uncle would definitely not have wanted to live like that. Verlander is pitching in the World Series tonight. he use to be a Detroit Tiger. uncle and grandma would so be watching him play if they were alive.
MN probably has one of the best medical areas in the country. The mayo is an hour from here. There are plans in the future to make it much larger than it is now. I want to say double but i don't remember. they are definitely expanding though.
Addiction is a hard thing to beat. I'm glad you were able to quit Sue. I suppose that hospital experience would have impressed on you the need to quit.
I think i feel that way about the gluten too. It's not about weight loss it's about managing symptoms better and it's worth a shot because the symptoms make me miserable.
I think that's why it's not hard to stay gluten free unlike trying to diet for weight loss. Stress and even if I get an argument with mom can make symptoms worse too. symptoms actually have improved since i've gone gluten free. It's not at no symptoms but it's better but that could be a coincidence. I won't know or believe it helps for a LONG time.
mom is sentimental on our piano too.
Thanks for responding Mo and Sue for your friendship too and Chris and Yah and bama. Your really all i have for friends which is a bit sad.

Hey, come on, Bekah, we are way better than nothing!
Glad your symptoms are improving.
I have been continuing with painting projects. DH and I painted the chicken coop and two sides of the stable, and I've done the walls down the basement stairwell. Next up are the ceilings in the mudroom, family room, and exercise room, and then the basement steps and handrail. And the upstairs bathroom, 3 bedrooms, dining room. . . .
Wishing everyone a lovely Sunday~

Yay, Chris!
I knew what you meant, Bekah, but couldn't resist teasing you a little.
So sad about the shooting in TX. Getting to be a sad world where you aren't safe in your church.
And now I'd better get back to weight management course-- boss wants to start a program at the Y in the new year, and wants me to lead it since I was the only PT who signed up for the training. I'm having a little bit of an issue in that I was planning to wait to actually do the course after I finished all painting projects, but beyond that, I don't know that boss and I see eye to eye on the approach to weight loss. She's naturally very (very!) thin, and has never had to lose weight. She believes in the "calories in, calories out," equation of "just eat less, move more." While I think that works for some people, I also think that those people are the ones who can lose weight on their own--they don't need a Y program. belief is that a successful program for those who've tried and failed to lose many times, needs to have a big mindset component and a more individualized approach. Oh, well, can't worry about that now.
Sweet dreams, everyone!

Re: Sisters in Sweat Journal (but all are welcome)
Hi All and Happy Tuesday to you!
I almost drove to work today but changed mind at the last minute. For exercise today I did one 20 sec plank, 30 minute walk at lunch and then one 25 sec plank. I was thinking to myself I kind of feel more like old self before the injuries to feet took me out of the game. I am still going slow but I am always a work in progress.
Thanks Mo. Good luck with the weight management course. Sorry it had to start up sooner than you wanted. I think you are correct on the mindset approach. I hope it all works out for the best.
Becky I have been wondering about gluten for me but I find it difficult to stay away for long. Moderation will be go to for that.

I'm with Chris on the weight management course Mo. I do think different things are good for different people than a universal approach to everyone. Hopefully it works out and you feel comfortable with the program. I think you would be great at motivating and helping people.
Chris I don't think you need to try gluten free unless you have some medical concern like allergies, or joint pain, etc, to see if it helps. If someone told me today that if all i ate the rest of life were vegetables but i could live with zero symptoms and off medication, I would do it. I really would. But i love baked breads especially and wouldn't give it up unless i needed too.
Moderation sounds good.

Re: Sisters in Sweat Journal (but all are welcome)
Hi everyone! Don't remember when I was on last but not much news from this end anyway:) I see you are all doing great with the exercise and getting out and about:) Good for you all:) Halloween was not much here as no T&T anyway and since I don't work, miss out on all the fun at the facility etc. and I'm not by town for anything. Guess lucky I have FB to see pics of people anyway:) And talk to people on messaging on there and see pics of gkids:) Its about 20 degree's here now and going down and I guess it will be about the same for this week with a Cold spell. Its been only in the 30's lately what we call warm now. Wow Mo, you sure get that painting done fast! Thats what I need around here but it is not getting done and walls have to be washed etc. Maybe next year by whoever:)
Becka, great on the gluten free food too:) sis does that a lot but I don't know if I could even do it as have to buy cheaper stuff and gf does not allow for that very well for me. I hardly get to town anymore and Dh picks up a few things and I'm just lucky he gets what he gets:)
Bama, I hope your knee got a lot better then knees still are? I don't think knees will get much better:( But with all your exercise you will probably do better with that also:)
Chris, sounds like your coming along good and if a week off, thats ok, as you got to give yourself a break once in a while:) Your doing great most days anyway.
Sue, sorry about the no sleep nights and all too! I sure hope you get some good sleep tonight for your big shopping trip tomorrow or you will have to relax when you get home for sure:) I do hope your AQ is a bit better these days?
I see the Lions did win over the Packers so that is a nice thing to see:) Mostly Packers around but I go for the Lions with middle son until their out of the picture and then the Packers:) I don't watch the games though, just get the score.
DB and SIL and sis also came over Sunday on their way to their son's house:) Brought some nice apples from their trees that I am eating away since I don't get any fruit or? out this way much at all. Missed the tomatoes also this year. Did have a can of pumpkin so made a pie yesterday at least. middle son got to go MN. to see his DB last weekend of Oct. finally but was pretty cold then and snowed even. So they went and did inside stuff I guess as DIL was gone with the kids. I might see gkids at Christmas maybe anyway if the weather is not too bad. Hope you all have a nice TG day and stay well and take care if any ice out there when walking. ttyl

Re: Sisters in Sweat Journal (but all are welcome)
Hi ladies,
It's 4:30 a.m., and after I catch up with all of you will try again and see if I can get a couple hours of sleep. As have another busy day for myself.
Oh your welcome Molasses. Hope you have great success with the shower curtain, rugs and anything else you need to buy. Oh the soft creamy yellow sounds lovely and I can see why you'd like it better. I see the basement stairwell got some too. Hope the weather cooperated and you got the chicken coop done too.
Yeah Molasses, you don't always need the university type but since I worked in a facility and for the Dean and Director of Nursing....I got perks LOL
Yeah well parents couldn't say too much as they both smoked, so did grandparents too and all of aunts, uncles, cousins too in New Jersey.
Oh very sorry to hear about your dad Molasses. Glad he went to the doctor. The machine and doggy system (portable one) though his might not be the doggy one like I have that I pull behind me (oxygen tank is in the cart (whole system nicknamed doggy system out here).
Not good no once I got out I was told I smoke I die.....so I stopped...wasn't easy but I couldn't smoke period. Chuck always went outside till he had taken his BP that Sunday and it was off the charts and he had a pain in his chest. He was admitted immediately and had to open his chest and put stents in...he was there for 4 days....worst 4 days of life. I was so lucky to have Jose (he was our maintenance worker then) and Robert (the owners son was working with him). Jose or Robert came by throughout the 4 days to make sure I was OK, if I needed something etc. We went and they got the car and brought it home for me too. I went with them but I couldn't drive so Robert did, with Jose following in his car.
Once Chuck got home Jose still came by to make sure we were OK. We were so sorry when he started doing the big corporate work for the company but were happy for him. He stopped by when he was here and he also had to go on cholesterol drugs and have some surgery for his heart but he got his done in Mexico as his doctor was there.
Saw him a couple weeks ago and he's doing very well. Thanks on the November plan, Molasses.
Bekah, I see you don't get many trick or treaters either now. We did when we first moved here but less and less after a couple of years.
HUGS to you uncle and grandma and I think that is so great they were both Tiger fans.
grandpa, Joe, was Met fan and grandma, who was a Yankee fan. Me and Joe would go see the Met's a lot as the stadium was just under a mile and a half away from us. How I got to be one of those screaming gals when the Beatles arrived....me and Lucy and Papa Joe as our chaperone....LOL
Yup the Mayo Clinic received some of lung stuff to look at, along with the place in San Diego, as the doctor there specialized specifically in Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis. You have wonderful medical facilities there.
Oh I was told I smoke I die so I knew I could never smoke again and it wasn't easy plus substituted food and since I was so weak and could barely walk and you quit smoking and you replace it with food; which I did also. Plus the doctors telling me I had to eat more to regain strength and gain weight back. Unfortunately I loved eating so of course, didn't stop at 125 I was back then but went all the way up to the high 160s or low 170s....I don't have the exact number anymore.
However, on March 20th, 2005 reached goal weight of 125 and then kept losing....till I hit 118 plateau for the longest time. Which was fine by me.....as back then I could use weights still with oxygen as we did it in the recovery program they had you do.
So got more muscle again and lasted for a long time. However when I had the very HIGH BP numbers and had to go to cardiologist for BP meds I was told only 10s and 5 lb weights and after a while no more 10s just 5's....so I bought some bands which he said was fine.
HUGS on the friends Bekah. Know I am honored to be included in your list.
Glad you got some more painting stuff done, Molasses. Good luck with the rest.
Was wondering what happened to you Chris. So nice to see a post on Monday. Good luck with the plank challenge. Kudos o the 20 sec plank challenge and the 30 minute walk too and then another plank....kudos!
I am with you on the shooting Molasses, a very sad commentary on our world today. I am with your philosophy Molasses and I can see why you might worry about doing the program with you different views. You know philosophy "everything in moderation" which goes with food and workouts. case is different as I have to curtail certain things and can't do others anymore either due to illness and being on oxygen 24/7
Hope it all works out.
Chris kudos on walking to work and congrats on the great workouts. Glad you are feeling better too.
YAH so good to see you here and yeah the no sleep nights got better and was great this week, till tonight or should I say this a.m. It's now 5:14 am so will be lucky if I get 2 hours. Nothing to do about it but live with it.
Oh I slept great on Tuesday and Monday and Sunday nights....PTL A bit better now AQ wise....however with cooler temps coming the fireplaces will make it worse gain.
I root for the Lions also, YAH as never been a GB Packer fan....as you know team was the NY Jets with Joe Willie....and we were in Rochester when they picked Ken O'Brien (I can still remember going to get mail from the mail room and since the guys knew I lived in NY and not far from where the Jet's played they said "who the heck is Ken O' Brien and where is Sacramento. I said well Sacramento is in California and we all just gotta pray the guy can play....but no one will ever replace Joe Willie....and no one did. However, Ken did pretty well.
I was also a Dallas Cowboy fan as I loved Roger The Dodger..... And Chuck got me to liking the Pittsburgh Steelers. All had great QB's.....and boy that Terry Bradshaw was a hoot and had arm and accuracy.
Well that's it for me...all caught up again and wishing you all a good Thursday.
Sue

Re: Sisters in Sweat Journal (but all are welcome)
Hi All,
I have been forgetting to post again!
Wednesday 30 minute walk, Thursday 30 minute walk. I am behind in plank challenge. I am just going to keep going until I am done even if it takes me 2 months.
I had a lesson last night then I relaxed on the couch until past bedtime. I did not want to get up and get going this morning.
Even worse the kids are home from school. That doesn't seem fair. Oh Well! Tomorrow we will be heading to our Remembrance ceremonies and it is supposed to be at the freezing mark.
Guess we will dress warm!
Have a great day all!
