Lynne, just go to the store every other day and do 3 sets! Ha!! Wouldn't that be a hoot!
Joking of course, but I bet it's been done.

Re: Work In Progress - FitoverForty
maybe I could buy 2 more 5lb DB's and duct tape them to the ones I already have to make 10lb DB's? Ha!
Todays workout:
HIIT Workout #2
3 min WU 5.0 mph
4 intervals
5.0 mph @ 1 min. 30 sec. / 9.0 mph @ 30 secs. (first time to go 9.0 mph
felt great!)
5 minutes slow
20 minutes steady 6.0 mph
2 x 12 ab wheel rollouts
2 x 1 minute front planks
1 x 30sec. x 2 side planks

Huh?swanso5 wrote:lu - squats are not better with a front raise for mine, the load is too light
I revisted post and now know what you were referring to. I didn't mean combo Squats/Front Rows, I do lighter weight deads with front rows.I think I got that exercise from your training program, no? Just the squats/shoulder press combos. I agree the weights are typically too light for squats alone, but for me I'm at no more than 20 lb DB's for shoulder presses, mostly 15 lbs. and why not squat too?

Re: Work In Progress - FitoverForty
referring to this
both greatFor example I love doing Sumo Squats, and while squats are good, they are better combined with shoulder presses.

Re: Work In Progress - FitoverForty
UPDATE!!!!!
This mornings weigh in: 163 lbs !!!!!
1.5 lbs lost! That may not seem like much, but after being stuck for a month with NO weight change, this is so exciting for me!
Current measurements:
Bust: 36.5 (was 38)
Waist: 30.5 (was 32)
Hips: 38 (was 40)
So, since July total weight loss is 7 lbs. Hopefully I am now "over the hump" and with continued HIIT workouts, and a structured weight lifting "plan" (still working on that) and with everybody's continued support, advice and encouragment...and the occasional kick in the butt!....I can reach short term goal of 155 by Christmas!
Have an awesome day everyone!

Re: Work In Progress - FitoverForty
Thanks guys! I'm a' tryin'!! If stubbornness and determination were the only things needed to lose weight, I would be a toothpick by now!!! (but really, who wants to be a toothpick anyway!!! ha!)
Swanso I have a question:
You mention on your site that Bodyweight circuits can done in place of "steady state" cardio. Would it benefit HIIT workout to alternate steady state one day and bodyweight circuits the next? If so, what bodyweight circuits do you suggest? Pushups, chin ups, squats, lunges - 15 reps each?
Also, are plyometrics (hockey jumps, low box jumps, lateral hops, ankle hops) considered cardio or strength or both? And are they included in the bodyweight circuit? How can plyometrics be used to best benefit? I read (also on your site
) that they are great for burning fat and for building muscle. Thanks for all your patience and help.

Congrats on your loss & inches
..Keep up the good work !

Re: Work In Progress - FitoverForty
Brent - are you messing with us now?

Re: Work In Progress - FitoverForty
You had me worried there - phew!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Work In Progress - FitoverForty
they sure can and it will halve your workout time...low level plyo's can be used but not hockey jumps...rmemebr your atill recovering from your wt sessions on these days so anything that will induce more soreness won;t help us...you want easy, moderate rep exercises...15 rep lunges may induce soreness which we don't want so maybe more sets of 6 - 10 may be better depending on how good you are and how good you recopver from them already...with your history of knee problems (i think for memeory) you'll want to go easy on them at first though

Re: Work In Progress - FitoverForty
Yeah!
that is good news Swanso! So how does this sound for one of HIIT workouts?
3 intervals 2min. slow / 1 min. fast
5 minutes slow
20 minutes:
4 sets of 8 front/reverse lunges
4 sets of 8 Box jumps
4 sets of 8 ankle hops
(no rest between exercises if at all possible)
not sure if I can do all of that...just a rough estimate
gradually increase the sets and reps as they get easier.
