Today was a cardio day. I did two 30 minute sesions on the treadmill. I am thinking of extending the run to walk ratio next week.

That's great to be getting some small positives already. It validates your wanting to change, so that makes it more emotionally and mentally beneficial too, when those kinds of things happen.

You can be proud of yourself so far. Long way to go, but keep it up man :).

Did strength training with the personal trainer this morning. I really did not feel like going to the gym today. Why this happens I do not know, because I felt good about myself when I went. I felt great after the workout. I have noticably gained strength in the little time I have been working out. This is probably because I am starting from almost nothing. It feels like ages since the last time I was sick, but it it was only about a month ago that I was fighting the UTI infection that woke me up. I am never going to let myself get in that shape again.

I think this is pretty common. A lot of days I just don't feel like working out - then I feel worse when I give in and don't. But on those days where I force myself to workout even when I really don't want to I feel so much better! The hard part isn't necessarily the workout itself - for me it is usually more difficult to get myself to actually do it :D Once I start, I feel great!

In experience I have always found the the hardest part of going for a run is just getting out the door. I always feel good after I'm out and running. And I always wonder why I even contemplated not going. The days that I don't get up, and I miss morning workout or run, I end up feeling much worse, with feelings of regret and personal let down. So on those days you feel like that, I encourage you to push through it and go, I know you will find that the personal satisfaction and sense of well being is almost/if not equal to the physical benefits of the workout. :D

It looks like taking it easy yesterday was a good idea. legs are much better today. Tomorrow in the gym it is going to be strength training. I am looking forward to it. The only down size now is clothes are getting loose and it looks like I will have to invest in new clothing before May is over.

I did strength training today. Except for fifteen minutes on the treadmill I avoided excercises dealing with legs. I want to give them another days rest. I went to see a surgeon who did a successful operation for a herniated disc in neck a year ago. It was last followup visit and he had not seen in six months. The first thing he said to me was, "Wow, you lost weight". It was the second time someone said something to me about it today. A co-worker said to me earlier in the day that I was slimming down. I started out at 298 in January and I am 268 now. I want to get down to 200, which is 10 pounds more than Marine Corps weight.

Hi EdgarHF,

It was a very inspiring thing you posted "never too late". Sometimes when we lack the optimism we needed somethings such as these to jump start and head on to where we are supposed at.

Keep up the hard work :). It's a long road, but I don't doubt you have the ability to keep doing it.
