You'll be fine. The main thing is to keep believing in yourself, and just keep finding the time to work on certain aspects.

I personally have never done that sort of thing, but I'm happy to see that you are doing that, and I wish you every success.

If you believe in your head and Heart you can do tjhis, it will be so much of the bettle won.

Wow - I could never do what you are doing. They wouldn't be asking me if I was ok, they would be calling an ambulance! Sounds like you really love it and it sounds like an extreme workout - just remember to take care of yourself. Congrats on your dedication and endurance!

Thanks Allison, Bossman and Lu,

I am one of those people who will do anything to not fall behinds so I do everything I can to keep up, even when I should lie down.

The weekend wasn't much for exerciseing. I never did make up that friday workout. I did a lot of walking. I have this almost 3 mile hilly loop near house. An old logging road. I have been trying to walk it everyday with dog and I am timing myself to see if I can take time off. Seem like eveytime I get good time, a neighbor pops out of their house to say hello.

Yesterday's workout was a weight workout, then I lifted, sorted and carried boxes all day, working.

Nice to see you again Patty - I was beginning to worry. I haven't been as diligent lately in recording workouts and food intake, not since that sore throat kicked butt :) I'm almost done with antibiotics and am feeling good again. Still working out but energy level is a bit down.

HIIT today and I'm procrastinating - I really don't look forward to it - it wipes me out! :)

Hope all your aches and pains are gone. We'll both get back on track!

Looks like with the nice weather, I am outside moving than posting workouts.I am still here. Did weight workouts monday, wednesday, and friday. Kickboxing and karate (still beginner) on Thursday. I have been walking the dog on the three mile hilly loop near house daily. I have been posting everything I eat on fitday and logging all activities but the weight doesn't seem to be going down. The calorie deficate says I should be losing 2 pounds a week, but in two weeks it is 1 pound. I have lost 1/2 inch to an inch on all areas of body with the exception of calves and forearms, which stayed the same from a month ago.

It's the inches that count! Hang in there!

I too will be outside more now that the good weather is coming. Will be doing cardio outside, walking with intervals or biking. I'm very excited about it! For several years now I've been such a couch potato on weekends - no more!

Okay, I must be crazy. I am an overweight stay at home mom to 6 kids and monday, after karate lesson, I stayed and took jujitsu. They said it was like japanese wrestling, I said 'cool'.

I was rolling around on the floor with buff 20 year olds and had the time of life. It was so much fun muscleing these guys around. When a green belt decided to get me in an arm lock and I got arm back and took him down, I was so proud. When Sempai, karate instructor, came in the room, he said 'she is so strong!" and while she was watching I took his arm out from under him. In the 5 minutes round he had me down way more then I got him down, same with everyone else I wrestled, but I really put up a fight.

The owner of the dojo, had this really excited look on his face when he was telling me I was a scrapper.



Monday hiked 3 miles, karate and jujitsu
Tuesday I hobbled out of bed, put ice on all the right paces and skipped weight workout, That night I did kickboxing.
Wednesday I did full body weights.

Today, I am assistant coach to the elementry run and fitness team, so I get to run and play with the kids, then karate and kickboxing.

Things are getting so much easier in kickboxing. At first I was queasy for about 30 to 45 minutes after the workout. Now I am only queasy during the last part of the workout and I am over it before I am finished stretching. Soon I won't feel sick at all and that will be great.

the weight :( It still isn't going down. I switched from fitday to sparkpeople to track food. I am trying to see what will work better for me. But according to both, I am hitting between 1200 and 1500 calories a day, and I log everything but morning coffee. two days in the last two weeks I went way under the calories, both were in the 900's. (I know, that is bad. I am getting used to these workouts. With the night time kickboxing, I can't seem to eat dinner because stomach is so tight) I am still weighing in at 190. I dropped taking protein supplements and added in instead 2 hard-boiled eggs to post workout. Mostly because it is spring and chickens are giving me 5 eggs a day. We generally don't eat eggs everyday, so I have a surplus.

cal's too low and a drop in resistance training = not good

also not a fan of training when injured

what would be proper calories for 5'6" woman at 190?

I was too sore to workout that morning is why I skipped the weights but felt a lot better for kickboxing which is at night. I was a bit sore but the soreness went away during the exercise.

2200-ish at a guess...you have quite a bit of activity there

i just don't think martial arts is gonna get the wt off but you probably won't scale back

I love Martial arts. right now I feel like I have to lose weight to do jujitsu and karate better, much like your "get fit to run, not run to get fit" saying. I dropped the HIIT sprints because I do kickboxing 2X a week and now I am doing jujitsu 1X a week. Karate is not all that cardio because I am a beginner. It is no harder than walking the dog right now. I am sure that will change in a month or so, and when it does I will adjust, maybe even drop something.

So right now it is heavy cardio 3X a week (I think a lot like HIIT becasue of it's intensity and rest periods, either, jujitsu, 5 minute rounds with a 2 minute rest, or,kickboxing, 2 minute intense exercise with a 30 second rest) and weight 3X a week. I also hike with the dog nearly daily a 2.7 mile hilly loop at a 3.5 MPH pace. (Just for kicks I clocked and measured it with husband's GPS).

I will be watchful of overtraining. Sempai was worried about that too. Told me to take yesterday off but I forgot to tell friend to not come by because we do weights together. So since she was there, well, you know.

I am off to walk the dog.

I love martial arts too… Back in college year… and 45 pounds lighter…I did Taekwondo, Hipkido, and Judo. It’s A LOT of boot camp workouts!!!!! Lots of kicking, punching, drills… (Memories) I was going for black belt in taekwondo but master told me I’m doing too much (over training)… I was also running every morning… with weights… which was a bad idea… ankle was actually hurting because of that!!
I was in the gym 5 hours a day because I was training to compete!!!

So... I limited myself from the others and focus mainly on Taekwondo. Besides… I had to mentally and physically prepare myself to compete in sparing!

Martial arts is totally a good way of being active and burning those calories with the drills. But you also need to rest and make sure you’re not as sore… It is VERY IMPORTANT to stretch after a workout… because you’ve been kicking… stretch out your legs… you’ve been punching… stretch your arms, back, etc…

Some masters will give you time to stretch in-between drills or after a workout… but make some time for yourself to stretch on your own… it always helped me be more flexible and less sore! The next day I come in doing spin hook kick! :P

I wish I can go back doing that… unfortunately the doctor told me NOT to spar and be careful with lower back… Stupid Drunk Driver!!!! :evil:

But Turbo kicking boxing is good at the moment! :D

Nokie I am sorry to hear you had issues and couldn't continue properly with what you are doing.

I am 100% in favour of any type of boxing or martial arts for women. So I would actively encourage it, for those who can.

Whatever you can still do Nokie, you should be proud of it, and proud of what you tried to do :).

Thanks Boss, Yeah… Sucks that the drunk driver was driving a stolen car and ran off after he rear ended NEW car… and consider totaled!!!

Only regrets that it was 2 months before black belt test. Master wouldn’t let me test because of injures. The test required major sparing and if they would have took that part out for test… then it wouldn’t be fair to the other black belt test. Which I can understand… but hey, I can’t go back and try to change things… I’m already fortunate that I’m alive after that accident. Now I’m slowly but surely being active again and this time… eating healthy with it! :D

Hey Patty, if you continue long enough with martial arts… the fun part is breaking the woods!!!! :P
