This isn't meant as a criticism, as I wish all members well with ventures of any kind, but one thing I did notice about that write-up on the index page, is the way it's written in the third person.
Unless possibly someone appearing to write about themselves, on a site they haven't created, is some sort of legal technicality or something like that, (I'm not sure), I would say it might be wise to make the write-up look more first person, incase people think to use the site, they may possibly have to deal with some sort of intermediary or proffessional go-between, as I would estimate you would prefer to have direct contact with any users.
Other than that, as I say, I wish all members well with ventures. It's not always an easy thing to do, especially if you've already spent on it financially, because it's a step into the unknown.
What I will suggest though, if you're interested, is you might benefit from a site I've used before, called Scrub The Web, which is a site that checks multiple search engines for acceptability, to see how many would accept in any way, sites perhaps looking for free not paid inclusions.
Google pretty much is always one of those, even for subdomains.
The site also can analyse if needs be, keywords, metatags etc etc, to see if there might be issues with any words or phrases that web surfers might use to locate such sites on search engiines.

Thats a tough one Swans... I think nobody has responded on the "how much to charge" question because they don't want to insult you by suggesting an amount that is too small... but at the same time they don't want to suggest an amount that is higher than what you were considering, thus ending up paying more than they would have otherwise.
I know a personal training session in the US is about $20-$50 per session, however each session is hands on with the trainer. At the same time though, you are giving us a diet plan and a workout which is more than what they would most likely get with the average trainer. But, with one-on-one training the trainer is able to tell the client what they are doing wrong where it might be hard for you to watch peoples form from where you are. Sooo I'm really not sure about what you could charge. I just graduated college and i'm looking at $20,000 in student loans, plus spending another $500-$1000 to get personal trainers cert so I am currently a poor little white girl with no money. What about $20-$50? (please forgive me if that is far lower than what you were considering, it was totally just a stab in the dark). Although, if youre offering a reward to the "biggest loser" you probably would be able to charge more as people would have the opportunity to win more than they pay and you would then have to cover your time/expenses and the award money.
Just thoughts... again I hope those figures aren't too low. I noticed nobody had responded to that question and wanted to put in two cents.
Take care,
Cassie

thanks ladies
these are the trype of answers i need to take an informed decision
i'm pretty set on the price now too
i was thinking of a reward but not a cash one, i'm in the same boat as yourselves as we're planning our wedding in december with limited cash help from parents etc
thew program won;t be a cookie cutter one either so with each person i'll tailor it to their abilities, equipment etc so technique issues shouldn't arise
bossman i just put that one page up so there was something there as a "coming soon" type of thing, just so people know where it will be...i'm crap at computers so i have a client doing it for me and hopefully more pages will be added in the coming days...i've sent him what to put on it so he only needs to do it

Swans... Why not add like $10 or so to what your thinking on price and make it a cash prize? It seems to me that more people would hop on board and pay if they thought there was a chance that they could win money. I've found that often money is the best motivator. Plus, by simply adding on $10 to the price of everybody in the contest the money won't be coming out of your pocket, the prize would be paid by the other contestants. If 25 people joined the contest, the winner would make $250 and no money would come out of your pocket. Just thoughts...
PS: Congrats on the upcoming wedding!! That is very exciting!!!

Hmmm... Thats a good point. It could be simply who lost the most body fat percentage? In the case of a tie Swans (and maybe some other uninvolved individuals) could compare the finalists to see who they thought deserved to win. However, if a person doesn't have a lot to lose they could be at a disadvantage.... but I guess they're going to be at a disadvantage any way because somebody who has never worked out and has 20 or more pounds to lose is going to have a much easier time losing the weight than somebody who has been dieting and exercising consistantly..... hmmmm... thats a tough one.

didn't think of that, not a bad idea
i did think shirts but then i'd have to get them made up and the shipping from here would be simply ridiculous and i'd also have to get a logo or something...might still be an option though
december 5th this yr...can;t have anybody showing up the bride though
keep the thoughts coming ladies (and gentleman)

there's a few ways we can decide that (photo's, bf% lost, % of bw lost etc) i may have a panel of other memebers here or simply decide myselfCassie - sounds like a great idea but how would a winner be determined? I would think it would be hard to verify who lost the most.
Might be better if it weren't monetary.

this has nothing to do with shapefit, it's all me and will be running it from site (www.uponlinetraining.com) when it's up and going v ery, very soon hopefullyMaybe ShapeFit.com and Swans can print some shirts and those who complete the program, sticking to it all the way, get a shirt and some other little trinket, some motivational trophy or something? Just throwing ideas out there. A way to advertise while giving prizes. Everyone wins?

that was initial thought but may have a 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize or somethingInstead of money, why not give the winner an additional month of training at no charge?
Hey Swan? When is the wedding - you'll be inviting all our skinny butts, right? Always wanted to go to Australia
