No it's not a British thing. I was watching a comedy drama one time, involving some labourers working in America and 3 of them stopped at some place called a Chicken Shack, or a Chicken Shed, or some such name and one of them didn't know what to expect; he thought he was going to get some Fried Chicken to eat, but what he was given in the back room, was a world away from Fried Chicken.

The other two kind of knew what sort of place it was, but at one point they were so concerned at how long the first one was taking, they decided to go in and rescue him :P.

He'd payed his money, but swore blind not much happened .

The whole premise was, they had dismantled on old Bridge back in England and were supposed to be reassembling it over a large ravine in America, so some Chokanaw Indians could get more visitors to their .

In reality the shows producers slowly edited or photoshopped bits of the Bridge out on the final edit / cut, over about 3 episodes, to make it look like it was being dismantled, but in real life it still exists where it was.

Todays' workout:

5.5 mile outdoor street/trail run
Felt really good, strong, no problems. Easy pace, with a few downhill pickups in pace. Just an overall good run - luv those.

Today's meals so far:

oatmeal
post workout: banana, protein shake

going grocery shopping in a bit - looking forward to stocking up on some veggies and other healthy stuff.

The other night I made some fresh squash and broccoli that son absolutely loved! I bought some of those steamer bags and cut up squash and broccoli spears and put them in the bag with some garlic/herb salt free seasonings and popped them in the microwave for 4 minutes. No butter, no oil, no nothing and it was delicious! I'm so glad boy liked it - another way to give him some healthy food and good for me and the hubby too! :D

steamer bags ?..so you just had oatmeal for breakfast, you might want to add some type of protein there, oatmeal I think 1/2 c cooked has 6 g.

I had been buying the frozen steamable veggies, but wanted to try buying own fresh vegetables and steaming them myself, so I tried these, and loved them. No muss, no fuss - no pots to wash, no oven to heat up, just microwave for 4 or so minutes.

I haven't tried those. I might have too.

I have tried the green giant ones and there are a few i like. I use to really like the green giant rice and green bean dish with butter sauce they had. It was one of favorites but they quit making it. They now have a rice dish with brocolli and cheese which is good but i liked the rice and green bean one better. I'm always on the lookout for something similar to that dish so if anyone knows of anything like that let me know. :)

That is becoming a rising trend these days. Such things like Fish and Chicken in a bag, oven or Micorwave ready.

What I like about it the most, is that it is allowing me to be in control. When I buy the veggies raw, & cut them up and steam them I know exactly what I am getting. Nothing added, no processed or preservatives - and that makes me feel good. Using the steam bags I can do away with butter or other toppings that I had a bad habit of adding.
I haven't tried those Green giant frozen steamables you mention Rebekkah - I have tried to green beans w/almonds and I like it. But I know that any of those that have the butter sauce or the cheese sauce are high in stuff I am trying to avoid * - hence the steam bags I am using. That way, if I feel I need any extra (which so far I haven't because the flavor of the veggies is really strong and satisfying) I could grate a little LF or FF cheese, or add some butter spray.
* the broccoli cheese, rice steamable has 980 grams of sodium in it  Maybe you could buy fresh green beens & steam them or frozen steamable ones and do your own rice, if you wanted? :)
It is hard to tip toe around all the choices out there, trying to find something we like, and is not full of hidden fats, sugars and sodium. I spend half time at the grocery store reading package labels!

Was a dude nearby when I was perusing that yogurt label & he heard me say " god ". He asked me what I was checking for, ( I use a magnifying glass so its obvious ) he asked " is it fat content ? " I said no, its the sugar.I prefer the most natural way, as lynn mentioned when you start with fresh, you know what your getting.Only thing that concerns me about plastic bags & microwaves is plastic break down in food.I do need to buy a steamer though.
