Thanks Bonnie. :D
17 miles total for the week - the most so far! :P gettin' closer to that magical 20 mile week goal!
No knee pain today, which makes me very happy, especially when it was all done on the road.

Well, I'm running very cautiously, taking care not to over stride, or make any sudden upward (like jumping up on a curb) movements with that knee. The pain was mostly when I was running uphill, or if I leaned forward too far (which I generally do if I am running uphill). So I concentrate on keeping a upright posture, and running smoothly, if not a tad slower than normal pace. I'll have to watch the plyo workouts too, not too much jumping. I can't afford a sidelining injury when I am at the halfway mark of race training - that would not be cool.
It bites getting older... just don't bounce back as fast (or in some cases at all...) as I used to. :|
Abs are sore today from the stability ball crunches and planks I did yesterday. 8)

Sorry about the loss of your husbands Grandma - no matter how old someone is it's a sad day :( Hopefully good memories will keep her where she needs to be, in your hearts :)

It looks like you are working real hard! Good for you Lynn! Take care of that knee...and yes, it really sucks that our bodies don't handle things like they use to - BUT, just think what would be happening if we weren't doing something about our health and fitness - I'd be 300 lbs by now!! LOL

congrats on the weight loss Lynne! and the 6 mile run. Personally i think longer distances help with weight loss, i guess we can use you as an experiment to find out! :)

When it comes to LSD ( long slow duration ? ) training, long distance is the only way you will burn the fat, the lower limit is like 45 minutes I think ?

I have a question for a runner person. When I return to the gym & do 20 minute run I notice about 13 minutes in, everything gets easier, breathing, stride, feel like you could go on forever...what is this ?..

haha! Bonnie...you have discovered the magical moment when your body finally stops resisting what you are asking it to do. It usually takes me at least 1 mile to "get into" run. Those first 10 minutes body is protesting and fighting and wants to stop, it aches and creaks and just about screams "STOP IT!!!!!" ....but if you hang on and keep going you can enter into that lovely land of "feeling like I could go on forever"... love that place.
I'm sure there is some scientific reason for this....I just know what body tells me.

I'm wondering if this magical feeling is related to the switch over from glycogen to fat fuel sources ..Les any insight ?..something is going on physically BUT I love that space in a run too, addicting :D

If the body started using an alternative energy source like Fat instead of Glycogen, then I would surmise it's possible that might have been the reason for what you felt, because the muscles will still be using nervous impulses and ATP, but then not Glycogen, or not as much if the body is using Fat or possibly dietary Glucose from the diet, or both, so the body might be getting re-energised or the muscles getting re-oxygenated a lot quicker, as Glucose contains one water molecule for every Carbon, so that's where Oxygen in your diet could come from, plus the more you increase metabolic activity, the more rapid an Oxygen release from Carbohydrate breakdown you might get, coupled with increased nasal and Oral oxygen, if you have an increased tidal volume as well, your muscles would therefore be getting more Oxygen, be able to use more Pyruvate for good reasons, instead of producing Ethanol Alcohol and Lactic Acid and you'd have more Oxygen to create more ATP with, as ATP is an oxygenated substance.

However that sounds nice and arty farty, but not being a runner It's educated guesswork basically .

I recalled last instructor saying the first mile is the body achieving " aerobic state " where the oxygen intake equals the demand, so boss I see you mentioned oxygenation, the prize goes to you :) It was exactly one mile today, then it was heavenly :)
