thought I'd pass along a few good tips I read this week:

Take your bananas apart when you get home from the store. If you leave them connected to the stem they ripen faster.

Peppers with 3 bumps on the bottom are sweeter and better for eating.
Peppers with 4 bumps on the bottom are firmer and better for cooking.

who'd a thought? :D

Orange and yellow Tomatos, contain a source of Lycopene that is more powerful than the stuff in red ones, because red ones contain some sort of enzyme that converts the Lycopene into a weaker kind.

The only other difference being, the Lycopene in yellow and Orange Tomatos, has a shorter half life, so you get a slightly less prolonged effect compared to red, but for the added potency, the payoff may be worth it.

Yes he was, I remember watching his tv show when I was a kid. He always wore that one piece jumpsuit. :D But he was always full of positive energy and a "you can do it" attitude.

Todays workout:

4.0 mile run - treadmill
time: 37:54 :D
.2 cooldown

really need to stretch, hammies very tight. I really didn't take time to "warm up", just started right into the run cause I was short on time.

Wow...I can leave thread for a second and all heck breaks loose!!

Allison, thank you for your input on your take on turkey spam, and by all accounts you are entirely correct. Real turkey with no added anything would be preferable to processed turkey. I guess that would go for any kind of meat.
Bonnie wrote:turkey spam...LOL though yeah yuck really :(
It's like a version of potted meat or meat spread, except it is in solid form. Sort of a glorified bologna, if you will.
I like the taste, plain and simple, what can I say? Sliced thin and pan seared in a little Pam or butter - yes, it is yum (for me).

I appreciate your input too Les! I could go into a long explanation of why I choose to buy it....but you guys really don't want or need to hear all of that. I don't want it to sound like I am making excuses or trying to defend myself. It is what it is. 8) Thanks for all your comments.

haha! yeah I guess i should have said "3 tacos w/chicken, avocado, cheese. :D

what the heck is a jicama?

Todays workout:

25 minutes of Bob Harper's dvd
2 mile treadmill tempo run - 18:58
.5 cooldown / stretch

so, I was wondering when I'm doing that dvd workout with all the squats, deadlifts, wide squats with various 5lb. db presses and rows, plyo squat jumps, walk out pushups, planks, speed jumping jacks - is that considered strength work or cardio?
heart rate stays elevated the entire workout, and it is constant movement, doing lots of reps.
I only did 25 minutes of it because I had to do 2 miles today in keeping with 1/2 marathon training.

todays meals:

breakf: protein shake
snack: trail mix - 290 calories
lunch: lean cuisine pizza (6 oz.) 320 calories
snack: almonds, pistachios (handful)
post workout: protein shake, medium banana w/tsp. pb
dinner: pan seared thin cut pork chop / 1/2 cup boiled new potato's

after a little research, me thinks I would like to try some:
Image
that's a red snapper fillet with a jicama slaw salad - yummm
here's a little info I found on it:
Jicama is a nearly perfect food for healthful eating--low in calories, high fiber, fat free, nutritious and satisfying. They are an amazing source of vitamin C--just a cup provides 40 percent of the daily minimum requirement. They also provide a generous helping of folic acid, a water-soluble B vitamin that is necessary for the production and maintenance of new cells--especially important during pregnancy.

JICAMA TIPS

Jicama is a nearly perfect healthful food--low calorie, fat free and satisfying.

* Add thinly sliced matchsticks to your salad for a carb-free boost.

* Use thin slices as a taco garnish or mix with cabbage for cole slaw.

* Top jicama slices with fruit salsa or seafood salad for a quick appetizer.

should be easy to find here in the south.
Thanks Joc!
oh yeah, I'd love that chicken recipe!

Yes, that does describe it very well. I really like it and it works well for those of us who train at home. It totally kicks butt, and when i add a run in at the end - well that it the total package!

Anyone who would deny that a squat jump is a strength movement is nuts. 6 x your weight coming down, show me a person who can squat 6 x their own weight ? Well except those roided up things...they don't count. heart rate is always up on plyo day, which is probably where that lb I lost went. I also already see great changes in physical appearance from them.I'd say it is a combination, but best of all its NOT boring.

It may be a bit premature...but I feel since I have been doing the cardio/strength/plyo workouts it has improved running stamina - and yesterday when I was down in the suspended squat position (he makes you stay there for EVER...) I was able to keep a good squat position (nearly 90 degree) for much longer than the first time I did it. Amazing how the body soaks up strength and craves the attention you pay to it and just gets stronger. :D It's like it is saying "come on, make me work, let me show you I was made for motion, made for exercise...it's what I'm good at."
