Unfortunately a pull up will reveal any injuries, even more so than a chin up, because it requires the tricep assist & on most people, bicep is more developed.Hope it clears up for you soon :)

Yes I will be the ambassador for women our age, if it can be done I'm doing it ! Another woman at the gym today said I was a good role model for the women in our gym to, so as noosk says "onwards & upwards "

Yay on adding veggies to a meal ! :)

how 'bout this?

Greek-ish Salad with Spelt Berries

Makes 2-3 servings

1 cup spelt berries
4 Roma tomatoes, seeded and chopped
2-3 handfuls baby spinach, roughly chopped
4-5 Persian cucumbers, chopped
2 tablespoons sliced black olives
Red wine vinegar to taste
Extra-virgin olive oil to taste
Salt and pepper to taste
1/4 cup crumbled feta cheese

Cook the spelt berries according to package instructions. Drain and rinse with cold water to cool the spelt down. While the spelt is cooking, chop all the vegetables and mix together in a large bowl. Lightly season with salt and pepper. Add the cooled spelt berries to the vegetable mix and toss to combine. Add vinegar and olive oil to taste and season with more salt and pepper if necessary. Spoon the salad onto plates and top each plate with the crumbled feta.

Creamy Dill Spelt Berry Salad

2 cups water, salted
1/2 cup spelt berries*
1 can garbanzo beans, rinsed and drained
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 ribs celery, diced
1/2 green bell pepper, seeded and diced
1 carrot, peeled and diced
1/3 English cucumber, peeled and diced
1/4 cup chopped flat-leaf parsley (washed and dried)
1/4 cup chopped fresh dill (washed and dried)
1/3 cup light mayonnaise
juice of 1/2 lemon
1/3 cup cider vinegar
salt and pepper to taste

Bring the water to a boil, salting generously, and add the spelt berries. Boil until the berries are tender and cooked through. Drain and cool slightly. Transfer to a large mixing bowl and toss with olive oil.

Add the garbanzo beans, chopped celery, bell pepper, carrot, cucumber, and fresh herbs to the spelt berries, toss to combine.

In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, lemon juice, and cider vinegar. Stir the dressing into the spelt mixture and stir gently to combine. Add salt and pepper, seasoning to taste.

Serve garnished with a sprig of fresh dill. Store air tight in the refrigerator for up to seven days.

*If you can’t find spelt berries (check your local health food store), pearl barley also works well as will any large-kerneled, sturdy grain.

I would have to leave out the garbanzo beans  blaaaahhhck!!! And toss in some shrimp or grilled chicken - waa laa!!

just a few ideas I found - didn't even know what a spelt berrie was. :D

they are one of the foods I HAD to finish on plate as a kid - so I have never liked them. I remember that I would count out exactly 16 garbanzo beans and mix them in with something else on plate, 2 beans per bite. 16 was just enough to "get me by" and not have to eat more...and mixing them in with other bites of food was the only way I wouldn't gag on them. :x

No workout today.

Hamstrings (especially the right one) are very tight and sore. I don't think I stretched enough after yesterday's run. :| Paying the price for it today. :x
I have a running friend who has been taking yoga for about 6 months now and he is completely hooked on it! He says it has really helped his running by becoming more flexible and strong. I think it could really help me & prevent injuries too.

now, on to more exciting news....
we are "kid free" this weekend!! :D :D son is on a weekend church camp so...... hubby and I will have a few nights together - just us. :D You would think that we would be planning all kind of fun things and really painting the town, or running around the house naked and stuff... but what we will most likely end up doing is just making some sandwiches or getting take-out, then start watching a movie that one or the other of us will fall asleep before it is over - wake up around 2 a.m. and turn the t.v. off  woo hoo!! we are such party animals. What? you didn't think I was gonna tell you what we are REALLY gonna do, did you? hahahaha!

 = last night.

Todays workout:

Bought a new DVD: Bob Harper "Inside out Method - Body Rev cardio conditioning" He's the trainer on Biggest Loser.
It is 1 hr. of intense, constant series of cardio and strength conditioning moves, lots of walk out pushups into squat jumps. It seemed the whole time I was in a squat position and working up from there. He uses a dumb bell for some suitcase squats, and squat, press, row, etc. then right back into squat jumps and speed jumping jacks with a twist jump to each side - and on and on. :x <- there needs to be an emoticon for "exhausted". I only did it for 30 minutes.
Then I went to the treadmill and cranked out a 9:13 mile, then another mile with speed variations for a total of 2 miles in 20:35, cool down 3 min. walk, stretch.

Really liked his workout - he doesn't mess around with alot of talking or explaining, just gets to it and never lets up. I can't wait to do the other 30 minutes of it!
I liked the fact he was incorporating weights into it and plyo moves. It only cost $9 at Walmart.

whole body is buzzing now. Love that intense alive feeling. :D
Hope everyone has a great weekend! :D

amatlack wrote:Cool! I was wondering how those DVDs were. Did you get any of the other ones?
No, I almost bought the 6 week bootcamp one he has, but I decided on the Inside Out one because it has the 1hr workout, and it also has a 25 minute shorter workout.
