Today's workout:

Lunchtime run at the park.
3.5 miles
Beautiful day, 61 degrees, blue skies, gentle breeze - awesome!

I knew that lunchtime was going to be the only time I would have to get run in, because I have some things I have to do this evening, so I brought running clothes to work. Almost talked myself out of going - but stuck with the plan, and I am SO glad I did! it was a great run.

That's 13.5 miles since Sunday.....watch out Edgar..I'm closing in on ya!!

fitoverforty wrote:Just printed out 12 week 1/2 marathon training schedule! The race is in the first part of April. I don't feel comfortable trying to train for a full 26.2 marathon with only 12 weeks to prepare - that's not enough time. If weekly mileage was up in the 25 to 30 range, then I could do it, but it is not even close to that right now. I've been focusing on the shorter 5K's, but now it is time to switch gears and start getting some serious mileage in.

Back in September i posted this:
"the other day when I was visiting Dad, the doctor came in and was talking to us...looked at me and said "are you the runner"? I said "yes, that I have father's strong legs, and just decided to put them to good use! lol". Then dad told the doctor something I never knew...he has always wanted to run with me! I told him to hold onto to that..and Lord willing, we will make it happen. I told him it would be an honor to run, or even walk with him."
This race, in heart, will be dedicated to Dad. Even tho' we never got to run together, just knowing that he was proud of me, and had told his doctor about me, and especially the fact that he wanted to run with me has been a tremendous inspiration for me and a source of strength in these last few weeks. On race day, he WILL be with me, with his picture pinned to shirt, every step will be done together. :)
OK, I'm a little late on this, but way to go!!! Good luck with your training - and I know that your dad's memory will push you through this one :D I know he will be with you during that race and that will be a great motivation for you! I am so glad you are doing well and have started running again :)

And way to go on running first thing on the 1st - great way to start the new year!

Thanks Joc. :D

Been out of town for a few days. Went down to the coast to see hubby's dad, then spent a couple of days in a place they have there at the beach. The weather was nice the first day - high of 71, but pretty windy. Didn't do too badly on foods - we brought most of our food. Had steamed shrimp, salad & baked fries last night. :D
I didn't get to run, but I spent two days going up and down 4 flights of stairs!
As we left and were driving home, the further north we came the colder it got. It's nasty here now, rainy, misty, windy and about 35 degrees - yuck! But still glad to be back home, so I can really get started on 1/2 m. training program, and focus on diet and eating regimen.

Hope all of shapefit peeps are doing well!

Hmmm, we had 12 inches of snow a few days ago and expect another 8-16 inches Tues Evening/Wednesday - like I said on journal, shoveling IS a workout! LOL Good thing because I'm not getting as much as I should - I did get on the treadmill today. Our family, mostly husband now, have been sick - everyone has colds of some sort, poor hubby has a horrific cough :(

It does look warm. That's so nice that you can go to the beach like that on the weekend! Very jealous! I would LOVE that. I'm also envious of the warm weather. I try not to mind the cold but honestly i'm ready for spring and summer already!

Watched "The Biggest Loser" tonight.
A few things really stuck with me:
Rulon Gardner saying "I just want to be the person I still see in mind that I am"

and the underdog team winning the weigh in - the confidence of the last guy who weighed...."we got this baby...we got this!" That positive energy and confidence was a force to be reckoned with! loved it! I almost jumped out of chair and danced with him!! lol!!

I've only watched a small segment of a show last night this season, but it seemed like last night anyways they really showed the contestants working out quite a bit. Sometimes they don't do that.

Well, they are supposed to "reveal" the unknowns next week - so maybe that phrase will die out.
I noticed also that the unknowns (sorry, Allison - that shot's on me  ) were really incorporating alot of bodyweight strength training and as you say functional fitness with ropes, bags, boxing, etc. - I really like that stuff, and it shows that you can work hard outside of the gym too and still lose weight.

love plyo's and bw exercises. I think they can be very beneficial to people "our age" (us old geezers need exercise too)
Bonnie, I am counting on you to personally prove and change the perception that older (40+) people have the abilities to improve and change their physiques and can strengthen and chisel their body - just like the 20 somethings can. I admire the fact that you want to "walk the walk" not just talk the talk as you become a personal trainer. Who else to better represent fitness than someone who is trained in trying to help others achieve a healthy body?
Remember Beachdog? He may have been outspoken and kept strong opinions (we all have opinions) - but you could not argue his success in his fitness and sport life - he is in his late 70's and I considered him to be a great role model for all ages. :)
I can only hope that I will have completed "work in progress" by the time I reach 70's.

me thinks I spoke too soon.. :( was doing some bw exercises and got into a pull up challenge with son. I began the pullup - or is it a chin up (palms facing in) anyway about midway up I felt newly healed elbow muscle area pull - a sharp pain in the muscle or tendon - I immediately dropped and tried to convince myself that I didn't hurt anything, but alas....I have re-injured it. I am so upset right now. I was really doing well with the pushups, rows - I completely forgot about elbow area problem. I thought it was healed, I've been carrying in groceries, lifting small boxes, doing things almost back to normal with no pain.
Really bummed now. No money this week for a doctor visit, so I guess I will just take ibuprofen, and try not to use it too much, no lifting or pulling motions. 2 steps forward, 10 steps back.

In other news....I made an awesome lunch yesterday:
Rotisserie chicken breast tacos with home made guacamole, hot sauce, reduced fat shr. cheese. So good!!!
But todays lunch was a total fail. Did not plan ahead, so I rummaged through the freezer at work and found a Lean Cuisine 5 cheese lasagna dinner that I had brought a while back and could never bring myself to eat. So I nuked it in the microw. and ate it - it wasn't bad, but about an hour later I was starving and wanted to eat the paint off the walls! Luckily I had a little snack ziplock stashed at desk with some almonds and pistachios, I noshed on those.
Got home and really had to fight off the urge not to eat the kitchen cabinets and everything in them.
I haven't been able to do a full grocery run to buy healthy snacks and lunch foods - maybe after payday this Friday. If I can just keep it together til then! :P

That's why I stopped eating those, too - they are sooooooo small! I still keep a couple in freezer for emergencies, but I fill up on veggies along with the meal to help keep tummy happy :D

Sorry about your elbow, not fun :( Take care of it!
