5K today. No PR today. Felt good, started lagging in the second mile, but picked it up again going into the 3rd mile. I look up ahead and saw son (who was far ahead of me) coming back to me, at first I thought he had already finished his race and was coming to find me but as he got closer I could see a pained expression on his face. He got to me and said he had hurt his ankle, twisted it or something, and said it was hurting, we stopped and walked a bit and then ran the last 1/2 mile or so together, he crossed the finish line about 2 seconds ahead of me. So I didn't get a good time, but didn't expect to place anyway. son is fine now, he has just tweaked his ankle or something. He was more mad that he didn't get a good time and didn't place - but I told him we all have things happen, and sometimes it is just not your day.
The competition was pretty fierce for this race. Most of the women near age were placing with times of 23 minutes. In specific age group 3rd place went to a 28: 16. I was about 3 minutes away from that, but I figure with the stopping and helping son I lost at least 1:30 to 2 minutes, so I still had no chance to medal - but I would have been close!! So now I know what I need to do, what time I need to train for. Lots more speedwork and HIIT, core strength, and get weight down - gahhhhhh!!!

Glad to hear your son is okay. Even without stopping 31 minutes is a repectable time. I'd be overjoyed if I did next 5K in 31 and some odd seconds.

Thanks guys! I'm really proud of him. The other runners in our running group awarded him the "Heart" award for showing the most heart and determination to finish the race. :D His smile was worth a medal in itself. We have another race next weekend. I told him that there will be many races in his life - this was just one of many. Not all are PR's or your best race, but the important thing was that he showed up, toed up to the line and ran the whole thing, overcame his obstacle and finished - that spells "winner" in book.
He is so hard on himself and is mega competitive...not sure where he gets that from...

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

I forgot to put that the intervals were 1 min. at the slow and 1 min. at the fast.
And I have found that the 1 min. at 9.0 mph feels WAY longer than the 1 min. at 4.0 mph!! :P lol!!

Today's workout:

4.0 mile tempo run.
Tried to keep race pace the entire run. Felt good, got a little draggy going into the second mile on a big long hill...but going into the third mile started to recover and pick up the pace again. Weather was perfect - low 50's. Could easily have gone another 1 or 2 miles at a slower pace - just one of those runs where you don't want to stop.

25 bicycle crunches
25 crunches

stretching.

 haha! Come on down to Texas!! 8) We usually have Winter for 2 weeks in February - it will deep down into the 20's. Rest of the time in the "winter" months it stays in the low 30's in the a.m. and gets up to 50's and 60's, sometimes 70's during the day.
But the summer is brutal - you don't want to be here in the summer...it starts getting hot by late March and stays that way until late September.

I must have really pushed pace on last nights run. quads are sore today! And i have a race tomorrow!!!
Oh well....no pain...no gain, or in case hopefully loss (weight that is...not the race  )

Last race of the year tomorrow - a 5K jingle bell run.

Then in 3 week it's time to start training for April's marathon (or 1/2 marathon if I chicken out of the full 26.2  )

Good Luck Lynne! Sounds like you have perfect weather for it - it's freezing here in CT, even inside the chill goes right to your bones - LOL
