I can adjust the smoothie by taking out the banana, or a little less of the choc. syrup and adding a scoop of whole grain oatmeal and a little cottage cheese (I just won't tell husband about the cottage cheese! He doesn't like it, but I do
I went to the Jay Robb website and he has alot of great yummy looking recipes for protein shakes as well as breakfast lunch and dinner. He mentions sour cream in alot of his shakes. Is that for protein?
I left out the choc. syrup this morning on smoothie and I felt like I lost best friend! I have such a chocolate addiction! Would using cocoa powder instead of the syrup be a better choice? Is there life after chocolate?

You're funny :) They say Chocolate is what makes the world go around, right? I sneak a dark chocolate kiss or two every once in a while, just to get - and it's good for you to boot!

Didn't you say your chocolate syrup was sugar FREE?

Yes it is sugar free. It is sweetened with Splenda.
It can't be all bad, a serving (2 tbsp) actually has 1 gram of protein in it, so there ya go, another source of protein! Only another 129 grams to go for the day according to what daily 50/30/20 nutrient breakdown is.

Now, if I can just kick diet coke habit....although I am doing much better than I used to, I used to drink up to 6 diet cokes a day! Now I have one diet coke in the afternoon with lunch and one in the evening with dinner. I drink one 16 oz. bottle of water (Power Edge drink stick added) first thing in the morning, then one mid morning and usually two in the evenings, so a total of 4 bottles of water a day. Are the Energy drink sticks bad? I know they have artificial sweeteners and caffeine, but I don't like just plain water. I use the Lipton Honey/Lemon ones too.

I hated water, but I have found I LOVE Dasani water, it's so clean and tasty - I know, water, hard to believe....I'm not even talking about flavored water, just the plain sutff. You can normally pick it up at Mobil gas stations for $5. a case of 24 - sometime you can find it for $3.99 on sale at grocery stores - the reason I say this is because many places charge $10 a case!

Anyway - I was a diet Coke addict and haven't had one or anything like it in 6 months - if it's not water, it's a little Diet Green Tea (cold) or of course protein shakes with soy milk, fat free milk or just plain water. Oh and 1 cup of cofee in the morning :)

I noticed a huge difference in weight loss as soon as I stopped the coke and started drinking tons of water.

But Cassie - isn't the chocolate syrup ok if it's sugar FREE?

What is it about the diet coke that keeps you from losing weight?

It has no sugar, no fat, no calories, so what is it?

I will give it up....but I'm not happy about it!! :D

I tried drinking water tonight without any thing added to it.....blah! The only way I can do it is if it is REALLY cold, almost icy.

Idematto: Do you use soy milk in your shakes instead of yogurt? I have never tried soy milk. I buy the vanilla flavored kind ( son likes it).

Oh yeah....tip for the day: Never, ever go to the grocery store when you are starving! Things just have a way of falling into the buggy that should not be there!

Fit, if you're looking for more info on Sweetners, check out the link I'll put below.

The site is authored by a Doctor Eric Walters, a specialist in sweetners. I'm not going to get into a big long discussion about Ethanol in Fruit and juices, or essential amino acids like Phenylalanine in Diet Coke, or supposed claims, having Aspartic Acid, Phenylalanine and Ethanol, from a combination of foods, prevents the so-called problem Aspartame gives you, from not having the three things, immediately loose in the gut.

I cannot say there is no possible way Aspartame can cause harm, as I can't, but I do believe Dr Walters is not some sort of Government stooge, who wants to make people believe what might not be the right thing. I believe he is an unbiased genuine specialist, but you can judge for yourself if you like.

Allison - Should I be checking the label on Dasani to make sure it's just water?

Fit - Yes, I love Vanilla Soy Milk, but typically will use it in morning cereal - lately I've been skipping the protein shake (make them with organic fat free milk or soy, with water after workouts) and mixing a scoop of protein with the soy milk and pouring it over the cereal. It's quite yummy!

I don't use sugar anymore but tried Stevia today (dry) and didn't like it. Like Katie said it was bitter. She recommended the liquid Stevia for a recipe, but I couldn't find it.

I have tried purifying tap water and am totally on the page of going "green" BUT I truly hate drinking water and this is the only stuff that works for me. So I figure it's Dasani or nothing and nothing, not drinking water isn't an option for me :(

I think it's genetic - dear old grandfather use to say he hated water, never drank the stuff, he said it was like drinking worms, of all things! :(
He lived to a ripe old age of 96 - never had an ache or pain in his body - unbelievable huh?

I've been trying to convince husband of getting a water filter for the kitchen faucet for years! He is convinced that the bottled water is "better". I myself drink the bottled water he buys, then use the same bottle all day and refill it with the filtered water from the fridge! 8) Saves money. Makes us both happy.

Idematto: Protein powder with the soy milk in cereal....brilliant! I can't wait to try that!

Plastic bottles that can be safe PET, PETE and I think LDPE.

Water filters. Don't use the ones with Granules, as eventually the impurities get sluiced through. Think about it, spheres don't tesselate or butt up against each other, except at very small point on the curve. So there's potential gaps for microscopic levels of impurities to be eventually forced though the little mazey network of granules.

Apparently the best thing is a Carbon block filter, as I think they work a bit like Cat litter, by absorbing and trapping stuff.
