Did some light weight training today. I concentrated on upper body. I want fresh legs for tomorrow's run. I signed up for 5K race today. Its on Aug 7th, so I have about 7 weeks to get ready. I have already run 5K on own so the distance is not a problem, but I want to do it in a decent time.

meds were lowered back in April. I go to the doctor for next blood work in October. I was told if I do the same on that next blood work I will be taken of meds. doctor may be in for a surprise next time he sees me because I weighed a couple more pounds than I do now last time he saw me in April.Lesplease wrote:Hey! I really don't know how to answer these questions. As you may know diabetes affects the immune system. If someone got a cold that would last a couple days I would get a cold that would last a couple weeks. I would be able to count on one hand the days I would not feel sick in a given month. I have been lucky in that I never had high blood pressure or any known heart problems. But, I think it may only have been a matter of time before I those problems would have set in. I started trying to get healthy because I was tired of being sick. I work with computers so I work with alot of young people and I didn't like being the old sick guy everyone felt sorry for.Lesplease wrote:That is so awesome! When I first started trying to get fit it was very hard and I really don't know how I got through the first part. It is not like me. Now, it has become a habit and I have found that I enjoy the workouts, especially the running. I have the aches and pains that any runner gets, but I'm not sick all the time anymore. Most of all mental state is better than it was been for years.

mid timelength goals
Run a 5K race in under 38 minutes -- I want to eventually replace this with run a 10K
reach a total weight of 190 lbs. In the beginning this was major goal. It is indeed a big milestone, but it no longer THE BIG ONE.
long term
maintain a weight of 190 and keep working out for two years -- remember when I reach one goal I must replace with a new one. (change it to five years then)
THE BIG ONE -- I have been thinking about this one for awhile now. It is also one of those bucket list items and I am reluctant to put it in writing. But, I know what it is
I guess I will replace that with a 13 and 1/2 minute to the mile time for 30 minutes.

That's an important thing mental state. If people cannot find a symbiotic relationship, between the mental and emotional and physical aspects of their attempted progression, they may very often fail.

I did a 2 mile run with the running group today. I am really too tired to post anything more tonight.

Hi Edgar...I'm just getting caught up on your journal. congrats on taking the plunge and committing to a 5K!! yay!! Like you said, you already have the distance down, now you can focus more on improving your times. Have you done any interval training? Sprints? Running slow for 1 min, then running as fast as you can for like 20 to 30 secs? It will help build speed. I try to do at least 1 to 2 interval workouts in the week, and one long run (longer than your race distance) to build endurance.EdgarHF wrote:I signed up for 5K race today. Yesterday I weighed in at 245, so 4 less pounds for the week. One more pound and I will pass the halfway point to goal of 190. I am starting to wonder if I am dropping too fast now. I can't post yeaterday's run data and I will refrain from going on a rant about expensive gps watch with a mind of its own. I did strength training this morning.
I drove of to Western IL yesterday to visit sister. I took nieces out to dinner. two nieces say they are going to drive out to see me run that first 5K in August.
