Help! (with workout)

Post by tethersofthescene »

I have been reading all of these articles that suggest I workout first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach... Let me tell you, I am not a morning person! I have started running on a treadmill at least 3 times a week, but I can't do it until at least 630pm. Is it okay that I can't workout in the morning? I am trying to burn fat and I'm completely new to this, so I need some help!

You do not have to work out in the morning, any time of day is fine. As long as you create a calorie deficit for the day( burn more calories than you eat), you will lose weight.

Hi tethersofthescene

I had a similar question based on a.m cardio, and ive also done some searching on the web on it.

I used to be a terrible morning person, until i found that varsity really takes up time during the day. Now i can say i am a morning person from doing early morning workouts now for about a year (before all the rushes of the day). I found it hard in the beginning, but when your body starts adjusting, it almost becomes an addiction.

It is still quite debatable on whether a.m. cardio is the most efficient for fat loss. Here is an article posted by the fitness expert Tom Venuto on the matter : http://www.naturalphysiques.com/cms/index.php?itemid=43

Workout when you feel best.

This is what the research says:

A small bit more fat is burned by doing cardio on an empty stomach. However, those who do cardio on an empty stomach tend to be hungrier throughout the day and often wind out eating more. Of course this is counter productive. Quality of cardio is also less when done on an empty stomach.

Strength training first thing in the morning puts you at risk for injury. I don't recommend it. If you chose to do it warm up thoroughly.

Someone else already posted a post about this so just look through the forum. Summary of most of what they said is: doing cardio in the morning burns slightly more fat but it also burns a lot more muscle than normal cardio does, so just stick to the calorie deficit...

Also a great way to burn of fat is HIIT (high intensity interval training) which means that you walk/jog at a slow pace for 60 seconds then run as fast as you can for 60 seconds and then go back to a slow pace for 60 seconds and so on for 20 minutes (apparently it's not good to do this for more than 20 minutes)...
