rehydration after a night on the pop

Post by roycer »

any thoughts on how to rehydrate after a rather large night out and an impending football game (soccer) - the water helps but wanted to know if anyone has any non-fizzy ideas......not drinking in the first place doesn't count ;-)

i'm a fan of a cup of apple juice and flat coke for hangovers. :) i can drink tons of room temperature water, but not ice cold after a night out.

It too late to do this but in the future try drinking water the night before. When I used to go out drinking I would make sure to drink water between each alcoholic beverage. friends would make fun of me for doing this... and it'll make for a lot of time in the bathroom... but it definitely works to prevent the hangover the next day. I would also drink a LARGE glass of water before bed and eat something like some cereal or some crackers. I've also heard that taking a b vitamin before drinking helps to prevent a hangover... you can also take one as soon as you wake up. Not sure how true that one is but its worth a shot. After a hangover I've heard that drinking gatorade or another sports drink can help you rehydrate.. again not sure how valid that is but thats what I've heard.

drinking as much water as you can before going too sleep and eating something always does the trick for me.

I've heard if you drink Milk before boozing, it has some positive effect, but I'm not sure exactly how or if it is actually true.

Another one is to drink fizzy stuff between hard drinks. Means you drink less hard stuff, and get more processing time for the units in the Liver, with less possible overloading.

Same time spent drinking, but only half of what you drink is hard sutff.

I wouldn't drink milk before going out. The milk slows the alcohol absorption, and you end up drinking more drinks thinking you're not drunk, but then it finally hits you too late. Same goes when drinking drinks with milk or cream in them (I love white russians or bailys drinks).

I'd stick with the water before, during, after, and I've heard about the B-vit too but have no personal experience. But I do take 2 motrin before hitting bed with a big glass of water. And I usually eat something horrible for me (like stopping at a Denny's, or a bowl of microwave pasta when I get home) before going to bed. Haven't done that in awhile, but when I used to go out it seemed to help. And McDonald's in the morning. :)

Not being rude, but slowed absorption would be kinder to the Liver if you think about it, and the Alcohol Sugars wouldn't get into the System so quickly. Although Lactose Sugars are simple and absorb about the same rate as other simple Sugars.

Plus why would anyone necessarily drink more after Milk, unless they purposefully meant to get drunk, or they're an alcoholic, in which case that's they're own lookout.

If they were getting slowed absorption, it wouldn't matter if they were casually drinking, they'd probably have the same amount anyway.

Again, not being rude and I do appreciate your response :).

As for that Bailies stuff, this is copied from a nutrition site.
