Calf Raises

Post by gpahutch »

What is the difference between seated calf raises and standing calf raises?
Are different parts of the calves worked? I'm having some issues with the seated variety.

The seated variety put pressure on the knee and can sometimes pinch at the hip as you do your reps.

By standing you "press" your body weight plus what ever you are lifting. More weight is good! I prefer standing over seated but do them on a block. ie about 2-3" block under toes so you can do full range of motion.

You can use dumb bells, hold plates or use a barbell in the hands or on shoulders.

Cheers

standing hits the gastoc (back) and seated hits the soleus (side) but really calf raises are a waste of time

I agree but they are part of the WM. I was using the leg extension on bench. I ran out of room on the bar to put plates. Then whole bench inched away from me every time I lifted
