How to lose body fat and gain muscle overall
I want to gain about 10 -15 popunds of muscle by next summer, right now I weigh 174 and i am 6'1, and goal is to get bigger and more toned nd lose body fat mostly for basketball in college , I want to come back next year with an edge and more fit to play at best

Gaining muscle is easier said than done. Your genetics have a lot to do with it.
But here's the tips that I'd give you:
-Perform compound exercises (bench, squats, deadlifts, military presses, etc.). Doing these exercises is the most efficient way of putting on mass.
-Increase your food consumption. You're going to need to consume more than you expel. Just remember to focus on QUALITY more than quantity. Stay away from the junk.
Basketball is a very strength-oriented sport. Work on getting stronger, not necessarily bigger.

I have no idea what the second one is, but Carnitine and Hydroxycut, err no thanks.
No actual offence intended, but Hydroxycut is crap and may increase the risk of Dehydration, by causing more thermogenic activity, leading to more sweating and water loss.
This could then increase Gout risk, by not having as much water in the body to flush out Uric Acid.
Plus the fact, less water and also therfore less Oxygen, would potentially increase Lactic Acid production, when the body was breaking down Glucose and Glycogen into Pyruvate and didn't have enough Oxygen to make more positive use out of the Pyruvate.
Carnitine is also a byproduct of protein breakdown, (Proteolysis), so no need for supplemental Carnitine. Carnitine to me is a waste.
1lb of added muscle will burn around another 45-50 calories anyway.
Fat burners are a waste of money. Herbal ones are a potential scam, Chemical ones at worst a danger to your health. Hydroxycut Hardcore killed people. Check the Medicinenet archives.
