Thanks!
I had to change plans on the run - was up half the night with son not feeling well - so 5:00 alarm was changed to 6:45 and no run. BUT, I will be going to the gym after work and getting run in then, plus a bit of upper body and core work, so it;s all good!! :D Looking forward to it!

Today's workout:

5 mile indoor track run.

Okay, a couple of cool things happened at the gym.
1st - The upstairs track is shaped just like a track only smaller and in one curve the whole wall is mirrors from floor to ceiling. It is open to the gym floor below, so you have a birdseye view of everyone else working out, treadmills, ellipticals, etc. - oh and the pool outside too - not that I was noticing that guy swimming laps....hehe...
When I began run I was the only one up there, and after about .5 miles I looked up as I was coming down the straight a way that faces the mirrors and I could see myself running straight on. And what I saw surprised me. Being able to see self objectively the way others see me was an eye opener (horrible pun not intended  ) for me. And what I saw was a powerful, strong woman running with purpose. I may not be the smallest or fittest - but let me tell you, the image I saw looked fit, fierce, intense, and driven. I usually avoid the mirrors or see myself negatively but tonight I saw something different and it really helped give me a much needed boost in the ole self confidence department. yes, I am bad a$$.
2nd - After I had already ran 4 miles, this guy who had been on the treadmill came up to the track and started running - right behind me - which kinda got on nerves because now it was like, okay he's gonna start lapping me and ruin "feel good about myself" moment...so he fell in behind me about 5 yards back, and I just kept on pace, steady as a rock, he stayed about the same distance...and well, I couldn't help myself...I started picking up pace, playing a little mind game like "okay, buddy, lets see what ya got" he started to fall behind just a few steps - everytime we rounded the corner with the mirrors I could see where he was.
I. would. die. first. before. I. let. him. pass. me. anyway, I had about 3 laps left to go, and I started running race pace, putting distance between us now...as I rounded the corner on the last lap, I didn't see him behind me. He wasn't there....he had gone back downstairs....HA! VICTORY WAS MINE! (if only in mind...) lol!!!
I had to do a few victory laps all the while thinking...."that's right....this track was MINE today suckers..." 8)
It was a good day at the gym. :D

Good read Lynne. :) I'm glad you showed him who was boss. I don't think of myself as a very competitive person but i find in the lap pool it helps me to swim faster by trying to beat other people in different lanes each length. It also is mildly amusing and makes the time go by. You probably already know this since you run with others quite often. He didn't last too long did he. :P

haha, no he did not.
Me to husband: "We'll maybe he was staying behind me to observe and study running form..."
Husband to me: "Yeah, he was studying something alright!"

Today's workout:

8.5 mile total street run :D
Ran 4 miles & had to stop and take out shoe inserts as I was getting big blister on right foot, so now I had to carry them with me and run with no inserts, no padding, just the bare bones of shoes. But I kept going, the last 3 miles I alternated between running for 5 minutes and walking for 1.5 minutes - that really helped with leg fatigue not being too bad.
Felt awesome! Could have gone farther, but kept it at 8.5.
I had taken son over to Mom's house while i ran, and I just ran a route in her neighborhood - anyway when I finished 8 miles (in front of her house) I asked her if she wanted to walk a bit and she said yes! So she and son came out and we walked a half mile together. I was so proud of her for doing that. She really hasn't done much since Dad's been gone - and I think it did her good to get out and move and get some fresh air. :D
Post run meal: whole wheat spaghetti with lean ground beef and tomato sauce - YUMMMMM!!!!

The main thing is you're still pushing on and looking for greater things. I appreciate it may start to feel a bit harder sometimes, for people as youthfully mature as yourself, but the pride comes from knowing you don't let those first few signs become a psychological thing or offputting.

You're doing a great job and you're a great rolemodel, for always trying, always working at it, always looking for the goal and being a very positive influence on your son. Your dad helped to give your Son one of the greatest gifts possible which is you. He lives on through you partly in memory but also in deed, so that will no doubt have comforted your Mother to know he left behind a daughter who can do the right things and uphold the families name.

Don't stop pushing for the goal or for what you want Lynne. You're a pretty special Lady and a humbling individual too. You've lived a life that is fruitful and rich and there is still more than plenty left for you to do personally and to impart on others, so keep giving what you do to others and kepe doing it with pride and a smile, becasue you've earned it.

I'm proud of you for how much you've continued to achieve, since you first came on here and despite going through one or tow difficult periods in life, you've grown as a person and blossomed more and never lost any of the beauty you possess inside.

WELL DONE for the continued things you do and keep that best foot forwards as always. It's an honour and a privilege to be part of this community with you and I hope you'll keep trying to prove something about aging and what it CAN mean, because you're a great advertisement for being a youthfully mature Lady :).

GOOD LUCK for the future no worries okay :).

Thank you Boss Man. That means alot to me. :)

The honour is mine. :D

@ Athene: Thanks girl! It was a great run - the longest I've done this year. Only 2 weeks til 1/2 marathon! I've got a 10 miler to do this weekend.

@ Rebekah: I do like Ralph alot. He seems so sweet. And I thought they gave the Disney star (Chelsea?) a hard time last night - she is not responsible for the choreography of a dance! I thought she did really well. Course I'm still pulling for Kirstey - she is such a fun person and full of energy despite being heavier than the rest of the girls.
I thought that Kendra did terrible, all stiff and not graceful at all - probably how I would have looked! lol
I wonder who's going home tonight? guess I'll find out here in a little while.

No workout today. I missed work too. Woke up during the night with a pounding, nauseous headache that lasted most of the day.
You know it's a bad one when you wake up and the birds chirping outside your window are too loud. :|

Yeah Kendra's not too good. Chelsea is who i meant. I think she is going to win. I think she is the most talented but Kristy and Ralph I like too. Kristy is a fun person and does well. Not to mention she seems to get a long with Max which probably is half the battle when being paired up with him. Max is good looking but he's seems pretty tough. I really like Ralph's first number he did.

Hope your feeling better. Like Les said that is the worst. Get Well!

Felt better today. :)

Todays workout:
5 min. warmup elliptical
2.5 mile run - outside jog trail @ gym
2 x 10 bench press - 60 lbs. (tried 70 but felt a tweak in shoulder so dropped it back down)
2 x 10 one arm cable row alternating arms - 60 lbs.
2 x 10 captains chair leg lifts
2 x 10 leg lifts w/rotation

gym workout was kinda random because..... hubby and son went with me to the gym!!! yay!! It was their first time, so I spent ALOT of time explaining machines and helping them, and a work buddy of husbands (also his first time) get a basic workout in. I was really proud of guys. :D They did good for their first time.

Felt great running, wanted to go alot farther, but was short on time. Had to get home and get dinner cooked and watch the last half of American Idol.

I was almost 2 miles into run this evening when out of nowhere I felt a sudden sharp pain behind knee running the back of thigh. THIS SUCKS!!!
I looked up "pulled hamstring" and it looks like I pulled the biceps femoris muscle of the hamstrings muscles. I had to stop, literally could not even just slow down or walk, I had to stop, the pain was bad. I am icing it now and I used foam roller, rolling back and forth over the area.
I can't get injured now.... 1/2 marathon is next weekend and I still have a 10 mile run to do Saturday a.m.
I wasn't going fast, I wasn't pushing it - I don't know why it just suddenly pulled. I am beyond bummed, upset, mad, scared, frustrated - this can't be happening!!!! :x

Oh, Lynne, that stinks!!!! :x I haven't caught up on your journal yet so I didn't realize your 1/2 marathon was next weekend already! I really hope it isn't anything serious. But just remember, if you aren't able to run this one, there is always another one!! Don't take any chances, make sure you are better before you decide to run.

You got a week for it to heal. If you just miss the 10 mile run, and still feel better by next week would it still be doable? Just have to wait and see how fast it heals. :)

I hope it works out, your so close!!!
