Renewing membership at the gym this week!! I am SO excited about this! It was nearly 2 years ago that I had to give it up due to financial reasons.
This opens up a whole new world of opportunity for me. I can play racquetball now, swim laps, go to some of the fitness classes, learn how to finally lift using free weights (in the past, all I used was the machines, thought free weights were for the "big guns").
It is great supplement to running program and with this triathlon I am doing in May, I NEED the pool to swim laps.
I can't wait to get started - I feel like this will really help me (motivate) make some new and lasting progress, especially since I now have all Shapefit buds to help me find way around the minefield of free weights and rep ranges and figure out what will work best for me.
Did I say I was excited - EXCITED!!
I'm gonna be such a newbie in there, walking around, wide-eyed, trying every piece of equipment they have - they may have to pry me off of the elliptical, one finger at a time - "you've had your 30 minutes lady...get off"!

Yes, I am excited, but excitement will have to wait until Monday. hubby and I are going then and will be signing up me, him and son on a family membership. That way, I hope hubby will go with me & play racquetball, or son, or better yet, all 3 of us and play some Cutthroat. Fun times ahead!!

Todays workout:

3.5 mile treadmill workout:

.5 warmup @ 5.0 mph
1.5 miles @ 6.3 mph
1.0 miles @ 6.3 w/4 pickups to 8.0 mph 30 secs. each
.5 cooldown @ 5.0 mph

stretched the hammies and quads and calves really good. No pain today.

25 crunches
30 bicycle crunches
planks 2 @ 1 min. each

No, he hasn't ever played, but I'm sure he will learn quickly, and he has this competitive edge....not sure where he gets that   so I know he will be good and hopefully will be able to play with other guys his age (i'm sure being seen playing with mom will be very uncool very soon) lol! But that's ok. I played in some tournaments there a few years ago - and was the only female so I had to play against guys - I made it to the finals.

There is a karate class that hubby and son want to take together - I'm really excited about that, give them some "men" time together. hubby, back in his younger days, was a red belt in karate, so I know it is something he loves. :D

Surely he still would be wouldn't he? I mean it's not a situation where you're a lapsed Red Belt and have to start from scratch again is it?

Yes Boss Man, I believe he retains his red belt status. He is really good, and tho' it's been a few years since he competed or was in a school - he still kicks butt.

Todays workout:

4.5 mile street run

Ran a good route with some running friends. Felt great, had a good kick at the end (thank you treadmill sprints  ) Staying right on track with the 1/2 marathon training. yay!!!! :D :D

weigh in: down another 1.5 lbs. :D slowly, agonizingly, nervewrackingly - it's coming off, but it takes SO much effort for so little loss - but I'll take it!!
Hoping next week - joining the gym - will help the lbs. release their relentless hold on body. 8)

thanks Bonnie. It has been about 7 weeks since I started "officially" keeping track - so 10 lbs in 7 weeks is good for me. :D

Had a nice few days stay at the beach. :D
Monday: 3 mile beach run. Felt great.
Today: 5 mile paved trail run. Felt awful.
what a difference a day makes! Every step today was agonizing. And to make matters worse, I was running with two ladies who are in running club - I was dragging, could not keep up with them. Every step I got further behind I was really having to fight mentally to stay in it. I wanted to quit, I felt like the biggest, fattest, blimp of a person who had no business trying to run. I can be brutal on myself when I feel like a failure. But I hung in there, kept going, trailing behind, and got 5 miles in. They finished about a minute ahead of me. They were really nice, but I just felt like I let them and myself down.
We are supposed to run again on Thursday - I hope I do better - NO I will do better. Gotta think positive and not let all these negative thoughts take control.

On to good news...I re-joined the gym today! Woo Hoo!!! I am so excited, can't wait to get back going again.
Okay, I know I have read on here a million times other people's basic "how to start" list, but I need some help.
What is a good basic beginner workout for someone like me - good shape aerobically, but haven't done any weights work in a long time?
I want to do free weights - but may use some of the machines too. I don't need any leg exercises - running takes care of that, but I do want to work core, and upper body. I appreciate any input you guys can give me. :D
