ok, I'm open for suggestions for a training schedule, here are the facts:
40 years old
6' 1" 224 lbs
non smoker
have never been to a gym, do not exercise @ all
40" waist
eat ALL the time whenever and whatever I want
drink a fair amount of red wine, and the occasional rum and coke
History:
@ 18 yo I was 6'1" 145 lbs
never worked out
rode bicycle plenty
quit riding @ age 23, sat on the sofa with a beer in hand and never got up again.
Goal:
not to die of a heart attack
would like to continue to eat out with wife, it is our favorite thing.
will give up drinking except for some red wine
would like to get to about 180 lbs
I don't care to get big, but would like to lose gut.
I have joined a full service gym and will talk to a consultant about program but would like to hear some opinions from you guys.
I have a long term expectation, I did not become overweight in a year and do not expect to get fit any faster.
The money is paid, the commitment is made and the schedule allows for 1 hour every morning and 1+ hours every evening. Not saying I need to go that much, but the time is allocated.
The wife is on board with the life change and will be participating
Please help me.
40 years old and fat

Goal:
not to die of a heart attack - take correct action now and then stay with it (training and nutrition) at least 80% of the time and you shouldn't....well not tomorrow anyway
would like to continue to eat out with wife, it is our favorite thing - the worse things people do on diets is cut out they're favourite foods...you can still eat out just time it better (try and workout before hand) and / or try smaller protions (share dessert instead of 1 each etc)
will give up drinking except for some red wine - drinking doesn't make you fat it's mostly doing nothing when hung over and the crap you food you eat brfore, during and after which can last for 1 - 2 whole days without a decent meal
would like to get to about 180 lbs - you can lose 1kg a week consistently which would put your goal weight about 35 - 45 weeks away safely
I don't care to get big, but would like to lose gut - the best waqy to burn fat is to build muscle, simple s that

The wife is on board with the life change and will be participating - this will help tremendously because it serves as motivation...maybe set holiday date to a tropical destination so your aim is to look good on the beach at the same time?
read the article link provided, that is what i have client's do ecspecially if they haven't touched wts before...your wife can do the same...don't go overbaord on cardio eitter as it is conducive to building muscle...go to link in signature, register, post this in introductions or weight loss for others thoughts...let me know what you think
