Whey Protein Shakes

Post by Repped »

So I do cardio, a full body workout (lifting weights for arms and legs, sit ups for abs) every other day. I try to get on as many weight lifting machines as I can. Usually at the gym for 2-3 hours. I don't eat that many meals. I try to eat 3 (breakfast, lunch, and dinner). I know I'm not getting the protein or calories I need for the day. Not so much worried about the calories since I'm trying to lose and boobie fat. So I'm looking into whey protein shakes. I've heard the best time to drink them for workout days is right when you wake up and right after your workout. And for rest days either don't drink them at all or drink once only in the morning. question is, what is the best time to drink these shakes? What is the best whey protein shake to buy for the price and quality?

Edit: Oh and also, is it okay to make a shake the night before a morning workout and keep it in the fridge...and then take it to the gym with me and leave it in bag for 2-4 hours and drink it after I lift?

(Someone might want to move this thread to the supplement area. Sorry.)

Whey protein is better than whole foods especially after a workout because it's absorbed much quicker than solid food. I personally don't drink a shake as soon as I wake up, I workout first thing in the morning on an empty stomach and then drink shake after, and 30 mins to an hour later, I eat breakfast.

I've used a bunch of different brands of protein powder, try a couple out and see what works for you. At the moment I have a 2lb tub of Body Fortress why isolate I got at Wal-Mart for $15. It's tasty, and it mixes well with skim milk.

Try a couple out from your local GNC or Wal-Mart/wherever you can go that has the products, it takes trial and error to find what you like, but it's worth it.
Well I'm not lifting weights for the full 2-4 hours. First, I play basketball for like 30 mins to an hour, then I run a mile around the track. Then I start lifting for like 1-2 hours (full body), run another 1/4 to 1/2 mile to get that blood pumping to worked out muscles, drink whey protein shake and then hit up the jacuzzi for 5-10 mins and then hop into the pool for 10-15 mins. I drink EAS 100% whey protein shakes. I've only been drinking them right after I'm done with the weights.
