Fygle -

Becky - we will have to call a truce before the regular season even starts   I think we will manage :D

I am going for a bike ride today. We are going to attempt to ride to the next town, which could be about 20 miles round trip  I will have to report back to say how far we actually make it. It won't be a real strenuous ride, sister doesn't like to go too fast, but it will still be a good workout :D

OK, so I lied, it wasn't 20 miles round trip for the bike ride. It was 30

Every inch of me hurts right now! Luckily I have a really nice padded seat on bike  The trip there was a breeze - we got there (15 miles) and were talking about how simple that was! So then we stopped and had lunch at this cute little place on the Mississippi River and then headed back. That's where it got tough - we had to ride directly into the wind!! Plus we had let our muscles relax for so long that it made it harder to finish. But we didn't really have a choice, we had to get back somehow :| But we made it and it was a great workout! I am wondering if riding bike might help work the muscles in knee since it doesn't have the hard impact like running does??? Anybody know about that? Maybe I am wrong and it will do more damage. Guess I should find out!

30 miles! You go girl! How does your knee feel? If it doesn't hurt after 30 miles of bike riding, then I would guess that bike riding can be a good way to build up the muscles in and around the knee, the quadriceps, hamstrings, etc. without further damaging your knee - but I don't remember what your exact injury is, so you might check with your doc about it.
Here is an interesting article with tons of great links about running, riding, injury prevention, training, etc.

Go you! 30 miles is an amazing distance to complete! Pity about the wind - makes it really tough!

Thanks everyone :) knee is actually OK, right one was hurting a bit on the ride back ( left one is the one I hurt and that one was fine, go figure!). I guess I will keep riding as well as running a couple of times a week to see if it helps knee.

When I was riding today I was thinking back to two summers ago when I used to ride bike a couple of times a week with two friends. The farthest we ever went was nine miles and I remember I would be huffing and puffing the whole way. By the time I would get home I would be basically hyperventilating and would have to use inhaler EVERY SINGLE TIME :( It amazes me how much better I feel and how much easier the riding is now that I have lost weight and have been working out. What a difference it made! I can't imagine doing the 30 miles back then, the coroner would have had to come pick me up off the trail

I will be making today a rest day. legs hurt so bad last night after 30 mile bike ride that I had to take ibuprofen just to be able to fall asleep  They are feeling OK today, but I don't want to push it. If anything I may just take Stewie for a walk, nothing too strenuous.

If they continue to ache, epsom salt bath, might come in handy :)

I used to always take a epsom salt bath after a 1/2 marathon, soak legs - it always helped decrease the soreness alot. :D

It's been a really bad day for food today - I only slept for a max of about 1 1/2 hours last night so I din't give myself time to get food ready this morning. Stinkin' insomia  If I was smart I would have gotten up and prepared foods last night instead of tossing and turning and punching pillows... note to self for next bout with insomnia! I am running quite ragged right now, I can't really believe I made it through an entire day! I was going to take a walk but the storms are coming back so I don't want to take the chance. I think I will do a 20 minute DVD instead (yes, another Jillian Michaels DVD), I don't think body will make it through the longer ones

Got some more bad news today. I have another uncle who has been fighting cancer for a couple of years. He didn't find out until he was in stage 4, when he was basically told he had 6 weeks to live at the most. He went to a trial clinic and did a procedure that put him into remission for almost a year. But over the last few months he has gone downhill and they got very bad news today. It doesn's sound like he has much time. But we will remain optimistic because I do know that miracles can and do happen every day. I just pray for the day that entire family can be healthy, it seems like it is just one thing right after another lately :( cousins are really struggling with this, the youngest one is still in high school and he is really having a hard time and it breaks heart :(
