Banana's are high gylcemic meaning they will enter your blood stream quickly. Therefore the optimal times would be before a workout or after a workout when you need a quicker form of glycogen.

If you are dieting and trying to lose weight than I would leave the banana's for the monkeys! Better off with slower absorbing fruits with fiber.

bananas do have some fibre in them (4g a go if i recall so they're not all bad although 3 - 4 a day is a bit extreme. If your looking for fat loss have 1 with breaky and then 1 other pecie of fruit ( MAYBE DEPENDING ON CARB SENSITIVLTY AND / OR VOLUME OF TRAINING) with another earlier meal but not one before workout. The body gets used to foods that you have that frequently and thus doesn't utilise it as effeciantly therefore storing as fat if eaten at incorrect times
