Why I'm Leaving Shapefit site

Post by beachdog »

It has been drawn to attention by several members that the posting under the title "For swanso and beachdog" may have been missed by most members.

To clarify the situation then, reason for leaving this site is simply a matter of professional ethics.

Moderator "BossMan" has formally asked me to refrain from offering corrective advice when errors on exercise are posted. This is his prerogative of course, but I would be guilty of dereliction of duty if after 39 years of extensive experience, (which includes, high level fitness training, medical and sports science, neuro-linguistic programming for elite athletes, former Federal Government medical officer and former consultant to the World Health Organization, phew, :) ) I were then to sit back and watch poor quality advice given on a regular basis.

As it is, I have bit tongue and refrained from commenting/correcting, on many occasions. None of this infers that Shapefit should be a site for the well-trained elite. On the contrary, the wide range of questions and comments from anyone and everyone makes it more interesting, particularly the exchange of workout regimes, ideas and encouragement that exists amongst the girls. :D

So it is sad that code of ethics means that I must now leave this site. I wish you all the very best for the future in achieving your life goals.

On the contrary. I asked that said corrective advise be done in a more considered manner.

It's fine to correct things, but it's how it's worded that matters, so it's not making the poster, look or feel potentially stupid or upset / offended.

I have never sought to restrict good members posting activities, but to just occasionally provide guidance, regarding how it's done, (to in that instance), avoid instances like the aforementioned one.

I'm sorry you feel this action is necessary. For what it's worth I appreciated your presence and would never have sought to undermine or discourage your activities, for a moment. post was done to prevent two knowledgeable and respected people, from ending up, having a massive argument, as the occasional spat had already occured prior to that posting.

I wish you well for the future, and hope that whatever happens, life treats you well. You're a good man, and you did add something good and very noteworthy to this community, and I'm sure it will be remembered and not forgotten :).

Good luck to you.

I disagree with Swanso more often than I agree with him and yet we have never gotten in a pissing contest, and I have not been asked to tone down comments.

I wonder why you are having so much trouble in that arena?

The nice thing about excercise is that not everything works for everyone 100% of the time. Each body is different and therefore slight to large differences need to be considered in given circumstances. For example, dips are a great excercise for building muscle but some people get nothing but pain from them and where's the fun in that? Squash is a great food and healthy for you but, if it makes you gag while trying to consume it...... why bother?

We are entitled to our opinions and advice but without manners and respect we are blind dictators and egomaniacs. Each of us has something to offer and something to gain. We are in a relationship with one another on here just like if we were at work or in school. Sure we are all at a keyboard and have no physical contact and sometimes it is difficult to see others as actual people rather than some avatar or nickname, but we do need to remember there is a mind, heart, and soul behind every word typed on here.

peace to all,
cheers

Good point well made.

There's differing ways to disagree with people, but some are not advisable, because they contribute nothing but bad feeling, or disruption to discussion.

Tolerance and an attempt to understand those who show respect, is what is required. People who just come here and purely act kurt or rude, from practically the get go and pretty much all the time, will not survive.
