Newb question

Post by glen »

Hey guys,

I'm hoping to build some upper boddy muscles and have a question.

I have a universal exercise machine, and lately for chest exercises I've been doing 3 sets of incline press, 3 sets of decline press, and 3 sets of bench press, each set with 10 reps, and with each workout I try to add a rep or so. However, when I told friends I was only doing 50lbs, they said I should be doing heavier weights. The problem is right now I'm doing over 90 reps, and can't handle the heavier weights unless I only do 1 set.

So should i stop doing incline press and decline press - sticking exclusively to bench press, and bump weights up to 100lbs? thanks!

your doing wayyyy too many reps, you should do a weight heavy enough to push out 15 reps max, this is the best way to gain muscle mass, doing as many sets as your doing at a lighter weight is better for just toning

OK, so if I did:

one set of decline press, 6 reps
one set of bench press 6 reps
and one set of incline press, 6 reps

at the highest possible weight that i can handle, it would be better?

OR should i do all three sets in the exact same exercise

OR something else?

once again i appreciate your help
