Working out while sick?

Post by madmaxx »

Hey guys doctor told me that I've caught the cold and I don't have a fever or anything but I have a stuffed nose and I cough quite a bit.

Can I still hit the gym even though I have a cold? I don't want to stay in bed...makes me feel depressed and I feel like I'm getting fat again.

This is kind of a dumb question but can I still workout lol ?

Hello Madmaxx,

As you are sick your body needs all is strength to combat the virus.

That's been said, I'm always hitting the gym when i'm sick, I don't like loosing weight and strength I feel like the cold is winning.

If your like me and still want to go, reduce by 50% your intensity.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice, I will definitely wipe down the stuff as I normally do. Yea I don't have a fever just a minor cough and stuffed nose.

Perfect, I can start working out May 1st, fresh start!

Same here. Wouldn't decline to go, just because I had acquired a dodgy Nostril.

If you take a couple of sets early on that are quite heavy you will stimulate your adrenaline and your head will be unstuffed for the entirety of your workout.

You are not cured, however. After the adrenaline dissipates your sinuses will be as bad as ever.

As a rule you will not make much progress training while you are sick because the quality of your rest is diminished and your recovery is longer.

On the other hand I find that I start to feel better as soon as I can get back on standard routine. It sets me up for a "normal" day and I start to feel "normal".

I think there is no harm training while ill--but be considerate of others and if you are coughing or have a sore throat you might consider the possibility that you might sicken others.
