question about alternating upper/lower body workouts

Post by try_again »

Hi all, I'm new here this is first post.

I just finished workout for today and I did 20 minutes of upper body strength training (DVD) and then worked out hard alternating using the recumbent bike, elliptical and treadmill. I like to mix it up, it feels like I'm working all the muscles in legs this way. For me, it was a fairly intense leg workout. poor legs needs lots of help and this is a start.

I know I should rest upper body a day but I'm not sure what I should do for cardio tomorrow. Is it okay to do the same routine (bike, elliptical and treadmill) everyday this week? Or do I need to rest leg muscles and do something less intense? I could just walk on the treadmill but I'd prefer to alternate machines.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated. :)

In general you can do cardio and abdominal exercises daily, but you should schedule at least one (or two) days off per week for better recovery.

On the other hand, if you are doing heavy strength exercises and cardio you might find it necessary to give your legs a break and take an extra day off.

The key is how tired you feel. If you feel fully recuperated by the next workout, then keep it up; if not take some rest.

thank you for the reply.
It makes sense to see how I feel and then go from there.
