Problems with Chest workout

Post by davidol »

Hi all,

I have been working out now for a few months and have started to see a definite improvement in biceps and triceps, however none in chest. I only have time to go to the gym in the morning so workout for about 45 mins 4 times a week.

I understand that the best workout is a full body, however I don’t really have time for this so tend to stick to two muscle groups per session.

chest exercises are:
Cable Cross Overs
Dumbbell Pullovers
Flat Dumbbell Chest Press
Dumbbell Flys

Can anyone suggest any way I can improve on this? Or any exercise which is better etc.

Many thanks!

A cautionary note

HI there

I know most people are limited for time, so assuming that you do a warmup- drop a couple of minutes from your cardio based warmup and insert a rotation of push-ups and wide-arm laying pullups (use smith machine for these). Your chest muscles will be ready-pumped for going straight to the chest presses. These must be varied as to angle to work the muscles in various way- essentially it is the Pectoralis Major pair that give the "Treasure Chest" and the chest presses give fantastic development in this area. All that said- a wholesale program is the best for all over development and larger size altogether, at least include something like bent-over flyes. Please ask your fitness professional at your place of training about "protagonists and antagonists"... there is a big chance you could be facing real neck, upper back and shoulder pain in the future by trying to focus on one part of the body, to the exclusion of others. As per above, I don't know your whole plan either, but must sound a note of caution about area-exclusivity within regular training... basically- DON'T!!

Best Regards

Steve
