Are set ups good for making smaller???
Hi there,
no they are not. Unfortunately there is no such thing as spot reduction, meaing fat is not lost from one specific area because you are doing an exercise for that area. When you work a muscle, such as you are working your abs when you do sit ups, you are strengthening the muscle, building endurance in the muscle, or possibly under the right circumstances increasing the size of the muscle. Exercise helps you to lose fat--from everywhere.
Doing sit ups, and exercises for every muscle group, is a good thing though. It burns calories and as you lose fat you will look firm and fit.

One more thing to consider...sit-ups predominately work your hip flexors. Crunches for example are a far more effective exercise in hitting your abs. Remember to consider other muscle groups when working your mid-section (core). Never neglect your obliques (sides) lower abs, and back. If you neglect these you will gain an imbalance in terms of your muscles.
The same also goes for other muscle groups. Whatever muscles you work, you should target it's opposite muscle (i.e. biceps and triceps or chest and back).
