Today I bought a 900g container of vanilla flavoured whey protein and after training I tried it for the first time. It says to mix a scoop (31g) with 120ml of any beverage. I read that water is the best for mixing with the powder so I did it but the taste was awful and to avoid throwing up I had to take small sips and it took a while to get it down. Normally I would just suck it up but the problem is that it because of the taste it just won't sit well and makes me want to vomit.
So question is, does anyone have advice about anything I can add, or any different drink I can use that would make it taste/sit better, without reducing the efficiency of the protein? Probably sounds like a dumb question but I just want it to go down a lot easier and faster.
Thanks
The taste of whey protein

Alright thanks, sounds good. I was afraid to use milk though, because I read that water is somewhat better because of the casein content in milk. But if milk works fine as well, I would much rather mix protein with milk.Boss Man wrote:Milk.
Frankly it says any beverage, but that's crap. Well probably could work, but any beverage?
Whoever mixed Protein Powder with Beer or Whiskey or Wine? okay a bit far fetched, but I wouldn't evwen be tempted to mix it with Juice, so I'd say Milk if Water doesn't work.
Also as another option what about just using a lot more water in the mixture so the flavour isn't so strong and the drink isn't so thick, anything wrong with that?

Taking Whey for 2-3 months now. And only takes it Milk and it tastes really good esp the chocolate flavour.
I have experience with 2 brands , one is "EAS sports" and other is of "PROLAB" The later one has some difficulties in mixing as i am just shaking with hand instead of using blender. but with the first one mixing was effortless.
So you can try diffrent brands till you find the one with which you are happy

Milk is not the best option for mixing Protein Powders, Water is, but if water makes your Powder taste like a Dogs , then Milk may help.
Or if you can find any, try the kind of stuff I uses sometimes.
I just get stuff in a bottle, 50g Protein, 50g Carbs, Carbs mostly Maltodextrin.
Tastes good, and usually lasts 24 hours after opening, so you can if you want to drink a whole one post-workout, or drink half then have a meal when you get home, and keep the other half for later.

I didn't want to try milk because as Boss Man just confirmed about it being worse, so today I used about 1 cup of water rather than yesterday's 1/2 cup and it was fine. A lot less thick and although the taste was still bad, it wasn't nearly as bad as yesterday so it was certainly tolerable.
So unless there's something wrong with using extra water (don't know why...but then again I'm new to this stuff) I think I'm set. Thanks for your help.

I have been mixing it with yogurt... I know it's a little unconventional but it works for the variety. I use plain nonfat yogurt and sometimes even add berries.
I am also find the taste of protein powder mixed with water a little nasty so I typically mix it with milk but I also tried cold coffee. It's tolerable but I had to experiment with the proportions because the aftrertaste is really disgusting.

I've tried a few different brands of whey protien, and found using skim milk with a handfull of strawberries or blueberries really good. Also mixing it in a blender or with a handmixer helps to fluff it up, tastes better that way, I don't know why.
If you use water, drink it with a straw, you'll feel less like puking 'cause you can't smell it as much as sticking your mouth and nose near the stuff.
