Hi Everyone,
I am a new Mom to an 8 month old Boy - FYI before reading below I am NOT breastfeeding anymore. I am currently doing some HIIT workouts from fitnessblender.com (40 minutes a day) & 8 minute abs. This seems to be all I have time for because I prefer to workout in the morning, and only have an hour to do so when baby goes down for a nap in the morning. I literally have only that time to workout and take a super fast shower.
When I can get a babysitter or get boyfriend stay home and watch him for a couple of hours, I do Bikram's Yoga. I am also starting 30 minute HIT kickboxing tomorrow. I've also attempted to do P90X, and while some of the exercises are great and really work up a sweat, others are so difficult that I actually can't even do them because I physically don't have the strength. It can be very discouraging. I've been exercising for almost 3 weeks with a healthy diet, and I've only lost 2lbs.
I am currently 5'3" and 128lbs with 25% (yuck.) At best & a few months prior to conceiving son, I was 108lbs. I am looking to lose 15% & 20lbs.
I have a very healthy diet, only eating Organic fruits & vegetables and I try to have a bit of protein every day. I've also been laying off the carbs, with the exception of some Organic rice cakes as a bit of a filler.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get the most effecient use of time and burn the most calories/fat possible within the hour that I have? I also really want to get down & tone muscles.
I currently have a stability ball, 2 6lb medicine balls, 2 5lb weights, a resistance band & a chin up bar. I am by no means lazy and am willing to put in all the effort that I need to. I would ideally like to reach goal weight by Birthday (May 31st.) Is this reasonable?

Having given birth just a few months ago, it is really quite hard to lose weight than normal. Stress is one factor as well. Just continue your exercise and healthy diet and you will eventually reach your goal.
Re: New Mom, Not a lot of Time
First off I would like to say CONGRATULATIONS on becoming a Mother and I am in no doubt you will be a good Mother, as for one thing, you have one of those faces that projects a lot of inner beauty, but also your attempts to care for yourself properly, elude to someone that would be willing to invest quality time and effort into a child, because taking an educated guess, I would say bad parents have poor lifestyle habits, I.E. don't care for yourself, don't care for your children and good parents often, ut not always have good habits that reflect well on their young.
So I wish you and your partner well continuing to make this work, as i'm sure you both will and your smile and radiant eyes, tell me a lot about you and it's all good
.
As for what you posted about your weight loss, don't necessarily assume the 2lb loss as inadequate, as it has only been 3 weeks. You may have done things to increase some muscle mass as well, so you will be replacing a bit of fat with muscle. N:B Fat doesn't become muscle and vice versa, they are different, in case you were not sure about that, but when you lose fat it could be also due to muscle, as an extra 1lb of muscle, burns another 45 to 50 calories a day
However, if you continue with what you're doing for now and reassess in another 3 weeks, then you might see more of a change. If you're still only losing 2lbs every 3 weeks, then obviously after 4lbs of weight loss in 6 weeks, small modifications, I would go for dietry ones first and foremost, would become a focus I think.
From what I could ascertain, you seem to have been chopping and changing some of your exercise patterns initially, so your body will have been having one or two potential issues, settling into a nice productive rythmn, because it may not have been able to work out what it's supposed to do and potentially get more efficient at it.
So I'd heed caution and don't get too concerned about what you're trying to do just yet, but obviously if you lose another 2lbs in the next 3 weeks, then obviously have a little rethink and consider firstly dietry tweaks as suggested, as I think that would be a more likely focus for change, if your weight loss doesn't appear to jumpstart a little more, as opposed to exercise change(s).
If you do however need anything else, or want to ask anything else, or just want to say anything to anyone else, as one little word can go such a long way, then please come and talk to us about anything, because that's what we're here for.
I don't envy the mothering challenge ahead for the next 20+ years, but I respect and admire you for it and I wish you well and keep smiling that wonderful smile, because you will show your child potentially more of your inner self, than any words could do and apart from anything else, the world can always benefit from more smiling in it
.
GOOD LUCK to you and yours Natalie and many respects and thanks for talking to us.

Re: New Mom, Not a lot of Time
Hi Natalie!! Congratulations on the new bundle of joy!
A HIIT 2-3 times a week will be an excellent use of your time and do not get discouraged with the p90x. The strength will come. I am in agreement that while doing the p90x, you may be gaining muscle. I have found that the scale is not the best indicator of success for me. I like to look at measurements and the way i fit into clothes. That seems to give me a better picture of how far I have gone.
And since you are already eating clean, question to you is are you eating enough? I run challenge groups and one of the biggest issues I find with challengers, is that they aren't eating enough food. The idea of eating less to lose weight is not always the best as you body needs to feel that you're not starving it. If you make sure you are eating enough protein, carbs, fats, etc. then your body will be willing to let go of the fat. You will also see an increase in your energy when you work out. So, I would evaluate your meals and ensure you're consuming enough food and drinking enough water, because this can play a role in the amount of fat you lose and your success.

Yea congrats Natalie! I fully understand the time constraints. That is why I do a lot of interval training. Great programs to follow are 20Fit (http://20f.it" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) and Weightwatchers Mobile (just google it). 20Fit gives you that hardcore interval training and weight watchers has great tips.

Re: New Mom, Not a lot of Time
Hey Natalie! Congrats from me as well! I hope everything is still going well for you!
I know exactly what that is like...the joys, the difficult nights, and the lack of time! Im not sure if you were ever able to find a groove for your workouts and nutrition, but I have been a part of Busymomsbootcamp.com for a few months now and I have been loving it! It is only for moms, and you get weekly workouts, a nutrition plan made just for you, and a private support group. (Im starting to sound like a salesman for them lol) If you still want a solution, you should give it a try!

Re: New Mom, Not a lot of Time
Yes you are, especially considering the email address you used to register on here, was also used to register that busymoms site as well.cathymiller wrote:(Im starting to sound like a salesman for them lol) If you still want a solution, you should give it a try!
I'd politely suggest that whilst it's nice to be helping Brad to get his site off the ground, you don't use other forums to talk about it, or you might get misconstrued as a spammer.
