Do you think this routine will work?

Post by Trish1 »

I have been doing an interval routine using resistance bands - much like the routine listed on this site called portable workout and I jump rope for a minute or so in between sets.....I think it is much like the Curves way, although I have never been to that gym. I have being doing this 4X a wk for 3 wks ..
As for diet..I have coffee first  along with Red River cereal. It is around 10am that I start workout (That's when twins go down for their nap :D ) The workout lasts for 30 minutes and then I have just bought some protein powder to have a shake. The rest of the diet is generally okay with ocassional cheats. Do you think that is enough cardio? I do go for walks mostly every day for anywhere between half and a full hour.
I haven't had any weight loss and I have been doing this for 3 weeks now. I really don't have much to lose...10 lbs or so...all concentrated in the area ( I am currently 134lbs, 5'5" and would like to the 125 or even 120 would be great!)
Any suggestions would be great...thanks :D

Like I said I do start the morning off with a coffee and about 20-30 minutes later i have Red river cereal ( it's a whole grain cooked cereal with flax ) I also mayhave some banana and/or yogurt (what ever I give the kids that a.m)
Midmorning - yogurt/just started having a protein shake as well

Lunch cottage cheese with fruit or salmon sandwich or the like

dinner: lean meat with veggies/ homemade burger with veggies/ pasta

I don't drink juice/soda etc - always water

I do have some cheats...like on the wkd I did have a Big Mac meal deal - first one I have had in about a year -

I also have a glass or 2 of red wine in the evening a couple times a week

I also confess that I do skip meals sometimes as I get busy with 1yr old twins

Like said I don't think diet is all that bad. And I just figured that after 3 wks of going from zero to 4-5 times a week of doing any extra physical activity would produce some weight loss :?

Is what I said wrong? I'm just at a loss....

Have the Banana, with your Coffee, so you give it time before the Cereal to digest. I'd have a small one about 18g Carbs, as you're getting quite a bit of Carb from the cereal.

Midmorning - yogurt/just started having a protein shake as well Good combo

Lunch cottage cheese with fruit or salmon sandwich or the like
Have the Salmon sandwhich. Most C C's have 8 cals per gram protein, slow digesting, so they will be digesting still by the time you have your next meal, and if you're having something like Wheatbread, you're getting good Carbs anyway with Salmon and Fish Fats, then just have something like a small Tangerine, or a few Strawberries, to get a small portion, 8-10g Carbs approx to boost up Carbs. Just have the Fruit first.

Have a snack here, between Lunch and Dinner. If it gets a bit awkward because of the little'n's, then have something fast and efficient, like a pot of Yoghurt and some Almonds. You might not get a lot of Protein, but at least you're getting a decent amount of Carbs and some healthy Fats, to mainly boost your calories a bit more, so your Metabolism isn't being given significantly less, compared to the previous meal.

If you can find more time, obviously have a snack with a better Protein / Carb balance.

dinner: lean meat with veggies/ homemade burger with veggies/ pasta Good, but be aware, that some Pastas can be high GI, so if this is your choice more than 2 nights a week, cut your portions down, so you're not causing a problem with elevating Bloodsugar too much.

I don't drink juice/soda etc - always water That's fine

I do have some cheats...like on the wkd I did have a Big Mac meal deal - first one I have had in about a year - Not much of a problem

I also have a glass or 2 of red wine in the evening a couple times a week Not bad, but you could cut that altogether if you wanted to.
Oh and you should be proud of the way you're looking after yourself. It shows if you love and care for yourself like that, your two little'n's are going to have a great maternal nurturing, and a very positive and loving influence from the very start, because how you treat yourself, will translate to them too in a very good way, there's no doubt :).

Hi there,
eating more often would be helpful. Going too long between meals is counterproductive for weight loss. Your workout is not bad, but if you don't see better results you may want to change it to doing a full strength training routine a couple days a week (which can be done right at home) and quality cardio the other days. Walking is great, but you may need to rev up the intensity a bit.
