getting a better posture
I just read an article on yahoo how sitting all day can affect your posture. I sit all day and to top it off i may be sitting more with another job that i have. I really like those standing home made computers that some people have made, i'm not getting anything like that anytime soon though. I know losing weight, pilates, and not slouching while sitting should help?? I'm guessing there. What exercises are also good for posture. I might try pilates in the future but i want to lose some weight before i do.

I was looking on line and they do have some workstations you can buy for standing. It's something i would really might consider in the future. I've seen some that are built with treadmills that go slowly. I wonder how hard it is to work with a treadmill moving.
I'm just wondering out loud here, or i guess in word format really.
Not seriously considering buying one, right now. Just want to get people's input.

I can't think why standing up would burn 60 more calories versus sitting down. In what timeframe would this be?

it says in the article you burn 60 calories an hour standing verus sitting. Yahoo i don't think of as reliable news media though so who knows if that is accurate.

That makes some semblence of sense, although it appears to be advocating their theories over exercise, or that's how I interpreted it.
I alos didn't like those sneaky advertisement inserts that look like video play buttons. Not cool.

Try to stand up as much as possible. We spend over 80% of our time sitting. Move your car seat straight up. Change your office chair (if you work at a office) to a pilates ball chair that will make you sit straight up. Work on your back muscles - because we active our front side muscles through our everyday tasks focus on exercising your back muscles as much as possible. These are just a few tips in how you can change your posture.

Pilates is really great for posture - I bought those Windsor Pilates tapes from an infomercial 10 years ago and used them on and off for about 2 years - it made a huge difference.

Re: getting a better posture
Hello to everyone,
I'm a newbie here and I need advise from real experts. I've been working as a virtual assistant for almost a year now and I'm worried of having a slouch posture which can affect approach to people and self confidence. It's been almost a year and I'm only sitting for about 8 hours in 5 days of the week when I'm in the office. What would be the best exercise that I can work on for me to have a good posture.

There is growing evidence that the best posture is not actually a straight upright seated posture, but more a back slant. Supposedly this is more beneficial to the back and may create the ideal conditions that vertebrae like, from what I remember reading a while back.

Since you are sitting all day, why not exercise during your free time off from work. Try to stand up also once in a while during work.
